Today marks 6 months since America was attacked from within by her own citizens. It was an armed insurrection on the US Capitol initiated by the president of United States. No one has breached the Capitol since the British did it in 1814.
The organizations and individuals involved in organizing the insurrection were strategic. The attack was not spontaneous. Insurrectionists were members of at least 7 white nationalist groups, QAnon followers, veterans, elected officials, active duty military and law enforcement. 35 Capitol Hill officers are under investigation for participating from the inside. 40% of those arrested were business owners or held white collar jobs. A pastor and his son were arrested. Trump didn’t pardon any of them.
The insurrectionist movement is all white with a token POC thrown in here and there for good measure so the racists can point to them when confronted about being a racist and say, “See! We’re not all white! We’re not racist!”
The insurrectionists are all white. The sedition caucus is all white. Mass shooters are all white. White supremacy is at the core of all violence in America.
Members of Congress supported or even helped plan the attack. House members Louie Gohmert, Matt Gaetz, Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Jim Jordan, Paul Gosar, and Andy Biggs gave group tours before January 6. Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley egged the mob on from inside the Senate.
According to Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, no person shall hold any office if as a member of Congress they “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof” but the sedition caucus is still in Congress. The Republicans voted NOT to investigate the domestic terrorist attack on the nation’s capitol so Speaker Pelosi formed a select committee to do it anyway. House Minority Leader Qevin McCarthy gets to pick 5 Republicans to serve on that committee. He shouldn’t get to do that because he has been aiding and abetting the enemy. Trump was impeached a second time for inciting an insurrection and the Republicans in the Senate acquitted him. At the trial, Democrats opened with actual footage of violent, horrifying video that was captured by those who were there, juxtaposed with Trump making a speech directing people to go to the Capitol, plus images of his tweets telling people where to go, security footage from within the Capitol, and video of members of Congress taking cover and being escorted out by police. It was all right there in plain sight yet Republicans still acquitted him which makes everybody who voted to protect Trump guilty of treason.
Republican hypocrite fun fact: 11 of the senators who set Clinton up to lie so they could impeach him for lying about his private sex life under oath also voted to ACQUIT Trump for a deadly insurrection.
This is the biggest case the Department of Justice has ever worked on. They have executed over 900 search warrants, apprehended 15,000 hours of video, conducted hundreds of witness interviews, gathered 210,000 tips, 1,600 electronic devices and hundreds of text messages. The investigations and prosecutions of the insurrection are the largest in history.
The Capitol Police turned down back up. The Chief of Capitol Police was warned about what could happen ahead of time and he let it happen anyway. The National Guard didn’t show up for 4 hours. DC Police requested backup at least 17 times in 78 minutes and were ignored. The Department of Defense sent forces to protect their own homes 2 hours before they did anything about the Capitol even though the Capitol Police, Vice President and Senate Majority leader requested it.
The feds found a truck filled with bombs and guns parked near the Capitol. Somebody left pipe bombs at both the RNC and DNC national headquarters but were not caught.
January 6 could have been way, way worse.
The attack on the Capitol was the most documented terrorist attack to date because everybody who was participating in it was filming it and bragging about it on social media. Proof is everywhere but the Republicans are denying and minimizing it. The insurrection had a 45% approval rating from Republicans right after it happened.
Republicans are desperately trying to rewrite history to erase the attack on the Capitol even though it was covered live on TV and social media. That’s not stopping them because rewriting history is actually very easy. MAGAs and QAnon followers will believe ANYTHING.
Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th president at a militarized Capitol like Abraham Lincoln was. He called the attack on the Capitol “one of the darkest days in the history of our nation” and “an assault on the rule of law.” He said, “don’t dare call them protesters; they were a riotous mob, insurrectionists, domestic terrorists. It’s that basic, it’s that simple.”
