A Point of Principle
Bill Barr timed the release of the Mueller Report the day before a 2 week recess for Congress. It’s Easter and Passover weekend and everybody is gone. Nothing is going on at the Capitol. No media. No protesters. The lights aren’t on and nobody is home in American government amidst the news that the president has committed crimes.
“The Mueller report stands as a monument to reality. It plainly and clearly makes the case that Donald Trump is not the man his supporters think he is,” — David A French
Trump is at Mar-a-Lago, of course, tweeting like a guilty mad man, vowing to “turn the tides” on everyone involved in the Mueller investigation, accusing them all of treason. Meanwhile, the White House pretends like everything is normal, of course, because chaos and corruption is normal for this White House.
CNN’s Anderson Cooper asked Nixon’s former White House counsel, John Dean, “If the president doesn’t acknowledge his lies, and his supporters don’t care, then what?” John Dean replied, “We’re in trouble.”
Sarah Huckabee Sanders is being called out for lying to the FBI. She defended herself like a true Trumper by lying some more and saying it was a slip of the Trump butt licking tongue, it wasn’t a pre-approved talking point. Then she did the usual counter attack with at least I’m not a Democrat. I didn’t really lie about the FBI to the FBI. No wait, I’m not saying I didn’t lie. I’m saying someone else told me to lie. It’s my job. No wait, you’re the liar.
Former attorney general Eric Holder said any competent prosecutor could win an obstruction of justice case against Trump.
If Congress doesn’t impeach Trump, it isn’t doing its job and he’ll get away with the worst crimes against the United States in history, clearing the way for future dictators and criminals.
Democratic candidate for president and sitting US senator, Elizabeth Warren, has been on a roll, rolling out policy after policy for her campaign. She stopped what she was doing to call on the House to start impeachment proceedings against Trump. When asked why, she said, “I read the report. It’s a point of principle. No president can do this.”
Elizabeth Warren tweeted: The severity of this misconduct demands that elected officials in both parties set aside political considerations and do their constitutional duty. That means the House should initiate impeachment proceedings against the President of the United States.
Elizabeth Warren has taken on financial corruption, political corruption and now, presidential corruption. She’s got guts AND INTEGRITY. Impeachment won’t be the central theme of her 2020 campaign going forward, though — she still plans on rolling out major policy proposals. The media should give her as much coverage as they do the white men running.
A Point of Principle should be the Democratic platform for 2020.
Republican hypocrite fun fact: The Republicans have no comment about the President of the United States, a member of their own party, obstructing justice.
Republican fun fact: Senator Richard Burr and Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, who is under the microscope now for leaking confidential information on the Mueller investigation to the White House, once climbed out of an office window to avoid reporters, carrying his dry cleaning.
A guy in Florida got sent home with an ankle bracelet and a slap on the wrist after he was arrested for threatening to kill Democrats. He promised he wouldn’t shoot anybody and Florida said OK even though he left a message for Congressman Eric Swalwell, “The day you come after our guns, motherfucker is the day you’ll be dead.” He also threatened to kill Cory Booker, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib.
Bill O’Reilly did his own video in his pajamas with no makeup blasting the media over the Mueller Report.
Vigilantes are kidnapping people at the border in the name of Donald Trump.
Julian Assange smeared the life and death of a 27 year old murdered DNC staffer, Seth Rich, to cover for the Russians. He not only knew Seth wasn’t his source for thousands of hacked party emails, he was in active contact with his real source which was a Russian military intelligence unit months after the murder. Then Fox News picked it up and made Hillary and the Democrats responsible for his murder. Seth Rich’s brother, Aaron Rich, released this statement after the Mueller Report was released - “I hope that the people who pushed, fueled, spread, ran headlines, articles, interviews, talk and opinion shows…will take responsibility for the unimaginable pain they have caused us.”
The swamp is slowly circling the drain.
“If ever there was a president who deserved to be impeached, it’s this one. A prosecutor from his own party laid out a solid case specifically for impeachment. This isn’t a hard call. It is exhausting to see a party hide from their duty so obviously when the stakes are so high. Right now the message is being sent that a president can only be impeached if it’s politically convenient or if an outcome is guaranteed. It doesn’t matter how egregious the offenses are. That precedent is terribly, terribly dangerous.” — Jared Yates Sexton
“I think we are in a very difficult time in this country’s history, and I am begging the American people to pay attention to what is going on.” — Congressman Elijah Cummings
It’s a point of principle.
