Back In The USSR Timeline Part 4 — Cambridge Analytica
In 2018, Christopher Wylie, a Canadian millennial, blew the whistle on Cambridge Analytica, a data analytics firm created by co-founder of Breitbart News, Steve Bannon and funded by hedge fund billionaire and Republican donor, Robert Mercer. He admitted that he “harvested” the profiles of millions of Facebook users in order to target and manipulate users into voting for Trump. The idea was to take Facebook data and use social media like military methodology to trick people into hating Hillary Clinton so they’d vote for Trump instead.
The Republican National Committee gave data to Cambridge Analytica.
Cambridge Analytica is a company on paper only. It doesn’t really exist as a tangible, touchable enterprise with employees and assets. It exists on paper as part of SCL Group.
The CEO of Cambridge Analytica, Alexander Nix, was caught on video bribing politicians. He offered them damaging information so they could blackmail rivals. He also offered them Ukrainian women.
270,000 people took a personality survey on Facebook which gave Cambridge Analytica access to personal information of 50 million users. That information was used to get fake news to them via their newsfeeds. They targeted swing voters and people who were known to click on all sorts of fake accounts. The FTC was supposed to investigate Facebook’s use of personal data. Nothing came of it so they kept doing it. In contrast, the UK’s response to Cambridge Analytica was swift and tough. If the law had been applied to Facebook in the US, they would have been fined $40,000 for each violation — $20 trillion. Facebook’s value dropped $30 billion in the first 2 hours of trading after that news broke.
Trump “won” because Cambridge Analytica leveraged stolen data and conspired with a foreign power.
44 Republicans hired Cambridge Analytica to win their elections. Some of their other clients were the NRA, the North Carolina Republican Party, Ben Carson, Tom Cotton, John Bolton (he paid $1,152,299 from 2014 -2016 for “research” and “survey research,”) and Ted Cruz (he paid $5.8 million to win in Texas.) Robert Mercer’s super PACs paid his company, Cambridge Analytica, $1,476,484 from 2015 through 2016 on Ted Cruz’s behalf. Kellyanne Conway was the leader of the PAC before she went to work for the Trump campaign.
The Russians gave the NRA $30 million to give to Trump’s campaign.
In January of 2018, Steve Bannon appeared before the Intelligence Committee to testify about the Russia probe. He said nothing for 9 hours. Trump put a gag order on him so the committee slapped a subpoena on him while he was testifying.
Trump, the Republicans, and the right wing media created the Deep State to trash the FBI so nobody would believe what they found out about Trump, the Republicans, and Russia.
Putin praised Trump during his annual end of the year 2 hour press conference. Trump called Putin to congratulate him on “winning” his election.
Retired 4 star Army General Barry McCaffrey tweeted: “Reluctantly I have concluded that President Trump is a serious threat to US national security. He is refusing to protect vital US interests from active Russian attacks. It is apparent that he is for some unknown reason under the sway of Mr. Putin.” A couple of hours later Trump fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe because he was a witness against Trump. McCabe was investigating Jeff Sessions for perjury when he was fired.
When Trump made his first state of the union speech, none of the generals clapped when he talked about building a nuclear arsenal.
