Biden and the Dems are Kicking Ass
The Inflation Reduction Act passed in the Senate without a single Republican vote. Not only did they not vote for the most significant federal investment in American history that counters climate change and lowers the cost of prescription drugs, they stuck it to 8 million diabetics by refusing to let the part about capping insulin at $35 a month pass in the bill because they’re beholden to the pharmaceutical companies who give them gobs of cash just like the NRA does.
This new legislation allows Medicare to negotiate the price of certain drugs, strengthens Obamacare, invests $300 billion in energy and climate reform — solar panels and wind turbines, gives tax credits for electric cars and making homes energy efficient, makes corporations making $1 billion pay 15% minimum in tax, and lowers the deficit. The House is expected to pass it at end of week.
Vice President Kamala Harris cast the tie-breaking vote. She has done that more than any other vice president in 190 years.
President Biden and the Democrats have a lot to brag about: Getting covid under control, $1.9 trillion in covid relief, $1.2 trillion in infrastructure and safety net protections, the first gun legislation since the 1990s, record breaking climate policy change, saving health insurance for millions, limits on prescription drug costs, recovering the 20 million jobs lost to the Trump Plague, passing the CHIPS Act, the PACT Act, and Inflation Reduction Act, reuniting 400 children with their parents after being taken at the border by Trump, killing the head of al Qaeda, appointing the first African American woman to the Supreme Court, getting unemployment down to 3.5%, wages up 5.1%, and deficit down by $1.5 trillion (a decline for the first time in 6 years), signing executive orders reversing some of Trump’s fascist orders, invoking restrictions and safe public health practices to get covid under control as quickly as possible, restoring science to covid and climate crises, protecting LGBTQ rights, increasing minimum wage for federal contractors, calling out the Supreme Court for reversing Roe v Wade and pledging federal protections by authorizing the attorney general to insure access to abortion such as self administered medication, traveling across state lines to get an abortion, insuring a woman’s privacy is protected while seeking out information, and not being denied Medicaid funds if a woman’s life is in danger.
Biden had a killer week — he killed Zawahiri, created 528,000 new jobs (unemployment hit a 50 year low at 3.5%), and passed CHIPS, PACT, and Inflation Reduction Act, plus Kansas voted to protect abortion rights, and gas prices have gone down every day for over 50 days. Trump signed blank sheets of paper to look productive when he had covid. Biden signed real papers after getting covid for the second time.
Alex Jones was ordered to pay $45.2 million more for punitive damages to one Sandy Hook family on top of the $4.1 million in compensatory damages and it’s not over. There are more families.
Anti-vaxxer Thomas Patrick Connally Jr, the MAGA idiot who threatened Dr. Fauci over covid has been sentenced to over 3 years in federal prison.
There was another CPAC over the weekend. This one was in Dallas. They happen so often it’s like a Grateful Dead tour for stupid shitty people. MAGAs are like Dead Heads, travelling with the Trump Band from town to town where instead of tie dye, they wear red hats and wrap themselves up in the American flag and dance to the same jams that they’ve heard over and over — “Trumpin’,” “ Touch of Orange,” “Hell in a Docket,” and “Casey Postpones”. The big differences are Dead Heads are harmless and their music is way better. While the Nazis danced, Steve Bannon interviewed Sarah Palin for his War Room show out in the lobby area. When he asked her what her main priorities were if elected to Congress, she said she wanted to reopen the investigation into Hillary’s emails, Benghazi, and “Congress should be having these huge, badass rallies on the steps of the Capitol. They should be having fireside chats.” During Sean Hannity’s set, he asked the crowd, “Did you ever think we would have a lawless President like we do now?” Out in the area where they sell fascist merch, concert goers were privy to some really bad political theatre. A square jail cell was erected where Brandon Straka sat on a chair, wearing an orange jumpsuit like the prisoners in Guantanamo Bay wear. Brandon is an actor who was playing the part of a political prisoner, but he also happens to be one of the insurrectionists who got busted for attacking the Capitol. MAGAs gathered around the cell and prayed to Republican Jesus. At one point, Marjorie Taylor Greene entered the cell and got down on her knees at Brandon’s feet which did nothing for him because he’s gay and she’s Marjorie Taylor Greene. She prayed for him. Brandon Straka is a former liberal who founded the Walk Away campaign to encourage people to leave the Democratic Party. He’s on 3 years probation.
Trump has a new toupee that looks even more ridiculous than the old one. It goes up instead of down and out.
