History has been made by Trump once again. He was booked on 37 charges by the government he once led and tried to overthrow. US Magistrate Judge Jonathan Goodman oversaw the arraignment, not Judge Aileen Cannon.
Trump made a dramatic entrance with a large secret service and police escort, with Walt Nauta by his side. It looked like a presidential motorcade except he’s not the president.
Melania did not accompany him. Nor did Jared and Ivanka and they live in Miami. Trump has no family support.
There wasn’t much MAGA support outside the courthouse either, despite Trump’s best effort to get them there. Members of congress and Kari Lake called for violence. The cops were prepared but there weren’t any problems. It was a pathetic, wimpy MAGA turn out. The Miami chapter of the Proud Boys was rumored to be planning on attending but if they were there they didn’t draw any attention to themselves.
It was a minimal booking process. They finger printed him but he didn’t have to get his mug shot taken. He did not have to wear handcuffs nor did he have to post bond. He entered a not guilty plea. Jack Smith was there and stared at Trump the whole time. Trump didn’t say a word. He kept his arms folded across his chest like a spoiled child.
Not only did Trump get special treatment by not having to be cuffed or suffer the indignity of having his mug shot taken, he gets to travel nationally and internationally. He didn’t have to surrender his passport.
Trump is not supposed to have any contact with his only friend, Walt Nauta, nor is he allowed to contact any witnesses.
This morning Trump posted that Jack Smith was a radical right leaning lunatic who probably planted evidence. Right after the arraignment was over he posted: Thank you Miami. Such a warm welcome for such a SAD DAY for our country.
None of the Republicans have rushed to his defense. The only ones who have his back are his fellow criminals — the insurrectionists in the Sedition Caucus.
Republicans are so unconcerned about being publicly united around their leader that they’re all individually going their own way with their own distraction schemes. Andy Ogles introduced Articles of Impeachment against both Biden and Harris. Anna Paulina Luna introduced a resolution to fine Adam Schiff $16 million. Marjorie Taylor Greene is writing an appropriations rider to defund Jack Smith’s special counsel.
Kevin McCarthy lied and said he hadn’t read the whole indictment. He feebly defended Trump hoarding stolen national security documents in his Mar-a-Lago bathroom by saying that bathrooms have locks.
Chuck Grassley said he hadn’t read the indictment because he’s “not a legal analyst.” Grassley is the former chair of the Judiciary Committee.
Right after Trump was booked, news broke that a federal judge ruled that E. Jean Carroll can amend her defamation suit against him to include his attacks on her during last month’s CNN Town Hall.
Trump is headed back to Bedminster where he can pretend to be president again where people pay to be his friends.
