After 7 years of pursuing an “unwinnable” civil law suit against a gun manufacturer, the families of 9 of the gun violence victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass shooting won. They agreed to settle for $73 million with gun maker Remington, who made and sold the weapon that killed their children. It’s in bankruptcy right now. Part of the settlement will force Remington to release their marketing strategy targeting screwed up young white males who live in isolation and like to play violent video games.

Speaking of kids, schools and guns, Republicans in Arizona want to force students to take a NRA course on guns. Says state rep John Kavanagh, “I would forward the name and address of the parent to child protective services if they opted out of this.”

A school bus driver in Minnesota was shot in the head last week while young children were on board. In other countries, that would dominate the national news. In America, it’s just another day.

Three of Susan Collins’ donors have been indicted for making unlawful contributions to her — all high executives of a defense contractor in Hawaii. They formed a shell company to make huge contributions to her campaign after she awarded them with an $8 million government contract. They used government contracted funds to either reward Susan Collins for giving them the contract or to bribe her for another, or both. They also had their family members make donations and then reimbursed them with government contract money. They have been charged with conspiracy to defraud the US, making government contract contributions, and conduct contributions. If convicted they face up to 5 years in prison and $250,000 fine for each count.

Speaking of sleazy Republican senators, some of the sleaziest blocked a committee vote yesterday on five of Biden’s nominees to the Federal Reserve board. One of them was Sarah Bloom Raskin, who Biden nominated for the Federal Reserve’s vice chair for supervision. Sarah is married to Jamie Raskin. Republicans hate his guts because he’s smarter and more ethical and respectable than they are. He’s on the side of democracy and knows more about the Constitution than they do so he’s their enemy. Sarah is their enemy too because she believes that financial regulators should consider the risks posed by climate change. Getting up and walking out to prevent a quorum was not just petty revenge. Delaying confirmations right now is only going to make inflation worse. If inflation gets worse, they’ll blame Biden. Republicans are banking on inflation hurting Democrats going in to the midterms because if it hurts America, they’re all for it.

Inflation isn’t Biden’s fault. It’s the anti-vaxxers’ fault. Until covid is under control, supply chains will be erratic which will drive up the costs of goods. And since it’s the Republicans who have politicized the pandemic and have brainwashed their voters, inflation is the Republicans’ fault.

Tina Peters, the former Republican County Clerk in Colorado who was stripped of her responsibility of overseeing county elections because she was a part of election interference (she’s under investigation for stealing data from voting machines,) is running for Secretary of State. She announced it on Steve Bannon’s podcast. After the Secretary of State removed her from her clerk position for helping Trump commit a coup, she’s running for Secretary of State so she can help him and the Republicans and not get caught.

The Select Committee has interviewed 550 witnesses. It just issued a subpoena for the phone records of Alex Jones’ security guard. It has also subpoenaed Trump’s campaign staffers and GOP operatives who challenged 2020 results in the key states who forged electoral certifications. One of them is Doug Mastriano. He is a current member of the Pennsylvania state legislature and was one of the phony electors. He helped plan the insurrection and is running for governor. He used $3,000 of his campaign funds to charter a bus to the Capitol. Two others are from Arizona — Kelli Ward, the QAnon GOP chair, and state representative Mark Finchem. He was not only at the insurrection, he brought something with him that he was going to deliver to Mike Pence. That special delivery could land him in jail for a long time.

Republican Mayor Craig Shubert of Hudson Ohio has resigned after he made international news for saying that ice fishing would lead to prostitution. Last fall, he demanded the resignations of the city’s entire school board over claims that a high school creative writing book had child porn in it. This totally freaked the community out which led to school board members receiving death threats. He was elected in 2019 and ran on fear tactics which got him the kook vote.

Speaking of fishing in the cold, fisherman in Ireland took on the Russians by chasing them out of their waters where they make their living after the Russians wanted to use that area to play war games to practice maneuvers in preparation with war with Ukraine. Irish Cork fisherman are like chihuahuas. Never mind how small they are, they’ll kick the big dog’s ass and everybody knows it.

“They have this massive valve up north & as the water comes pouring down from the snow — all beautiful, nice, clean water — they send it out. Because there’s a tiny little fish that they’re trying to save, that’s doing very poorly by the way. I think it’s a smelt.” -Trump’s thoughts on California
