Democracy Is Not A Football
Governor Gavin Newsom of California has not been recalled. 6 million Californians have told Republicans to go fuck themselves so far (9 million votes have been counted with 65% of precincts reporting.) He won in a landslide — 2–1. 30% voted yes — the same amount of MAGA crazies and unvaccinated conspiracy theorists Americans are stuck with that live across the country. In Newsom’s victory speech he called the Republicans out for wasting time and money with this stunt punt so they could cry foul by claiming election fraud when they lost. He warned, “Trumpism is not dead in this country. Democracy is not a football. You don’t throw it around. It’s more like an antique vase. You can drop it and smash it in a million different pieces.”
Newsom ran against Trumpism. Larry Elder, the black face of white supremacy, ran against Newsom. Team Trump won’t ever make the cut in California. Not even if the players are Black or transgender (Caitlyn Jenner only got 1% of the vote — turns out sports fans aren’t Caitlyn Jenner fans.)
California is home to 12% of the country’s total population. As California goes, so goes the nation. California has had it with Republican bullshit. The state is much younger and diverse than ever before. Ronald Reagan doesn’t mean anything to the newer, more worldly California.
42% of the Democrats surveyed in the recall exit polls said that their #1 priority was the coronavirus. In contrast, 15% of the Republicans surveyed said that the pandemic was their primary concern. Their #1 priority was the economy, as usual. Money money money money.
The general election is in 9 months. Why not wait to vote for a new governor until then? Because Republicans can’t win unless they cheat. They tried to let some air out of the political football with this recall and they got caught. Dumb jocks.
Now Governor Newsom can get back to work, dealing with climate change and record breaking fires and controlling the spread of a deadly pandemic in the largest state of the nation with the fifth largest economy in the world. California is big league.
Children make up 1/4 of covid cases now. Die hard anti vaxxers are pointing to covid deaths among the vaccinated as proof that the vaccine doesn’t work. 2,675 vaccinated people have died from covid since January 1 out of an overall total of 300,000. Of those who died, the unvaccinated died at a rate 100 times higher than the unvaccinated. They weren’t children, either. The majority of them were over 70 and had very serious pre-existing conditions. The vaccine did not kill them.
1 out of 142 people have died from covid in East Feliciana, Louisiana because people played covid like a game that they were sure they’d beat.
Bob Woodward and Robert Costa wrote a book about Trump that is coming out next week. It starts off with General Milley being worried that Trump would try and start a war to maintain power. He reached out to the highest ranking general in the Chinese Army, General Lee, on a secret back channel secure phone, to assure him that everything was under control even though he really didn’t believe that. Other countries were just as freaked out. Nancy Pelosi called General Milley 2 days after the attack on the Capitol to express concerns that Trump would take control of the nuclear football and use the codes to start blowing countries up because he’s CRAZY. She said that. She called him “crazy.” General Milley agreed. The book also reveals that Mike Pence called Dan Quayle to seek his advice on whether or not he could use his power to refuse to certify the election. Quayle told him to drop the ball. Forget about it. Don’t even think about it. Are you crazy? The country and world were on the line as far as Milley and Pelosi was concerned. The only thing that was on the line for Pence was that Trump wouldn’t like him anymore. Trump actually told him, “If you don’t do this I don’t want to be your friend anymore.” Pence is no lineman. He’s too weak and small. He’s a woose.
Marco Rubio wants Biden to immediately fire General Milley for saving the world and Laura Ingraham accused General Milley of conducting a silent coup. Pathetic plays, players.
Senate Democrats have put a new voting rights bill on the floor, the Freedom to Vote Act. 9 senators went back to the drawing board to rework HR1, the For the People Act that the bombed in the Senate, and put Joe Manchin in charge of getting 10 Republicans to vote for it. Coach Mitch said the Republican team won’t play. They are hell bent on not letting people vote. If more people can vote it’s game over for the Republicans so filibuster it is.
Football season has started and most NFL teams are going to try and play as if everything is back to normal. Not the Buffalo Bills, though. Fans can’t enter the stadium unless they prove they’re vaccinated. If they’re not, they can get vaccinated right there. Goal!
MAGAs have scheduled another Stop the Steal rally in DC for this Saturday. Fencing is going up around the Capitol field and the police are ready this time. Deranged MAGAs are prepared to defend Trumpism as being as American as football. They want an instant replay of January 6. Democrats fear that January 6 was just a scrimmage. Republicans are like, oh well — everybody knows that football is a violent game. Don’t play if you’re not tough enough. Prepare to get hurt.
