Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords is a victim of a mass shooting, a gun owner, and together with her husband, Senator Mark Kelly, fight for common sense gun legislation

Today we’re going to see the first federal action on gun violence since the Columbine shooting 22 years ago. Biden is putting David Chipman in charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive (ATF). He is currently the senior policy advisor at Giffords, the nonprofit that Senator Mark Kelly and his wife, Gabby Giffords, set up to combat gun violence after his wife was shot in the head during a mass shooting in Tucson, Arizona while she was meeting with constituents at a grocery store when she was a US Congresswoman. Next, President Biden, with Attorney General Merrick Garland by his side, will announce the gun reforms he is going to put in place. He is ordering the Justice Department to make rule changes to stop the spread of ghost guns, the untraceable firearms that require no background checks — build-at-home kits and 3D printed guns, make rule changes that limit the spread of modifications to pistols that turn them into assault weapons, publish “red flag” model legislation for states which will provide resources for states to fight gun suicide, domestic violence, and more, direct financial resources to combat many of the root causes of gun violence with a significant investment in prevention efforts, start issuing an annual report on gun trafficking which is a significant tool to get legal firearms and their dealers off the streets. He can’t ban assault weapons or legislate universal background checks, though. Congress has to do that.

Meanwhile, Wayne LaPierre, the beat up CEO of the NRA, is groveling in bankruptcy court in Texas while New York works at dissolving his whole organization. He managed to keep the bankruptcy filing secret from almost all its senior officials, including its general counsel, CFO and top lobbyist. He and the NRA are in really deep shit. They can’t help the Republicans or gun nuts now.

Gun nuts are gonna go nuts.

Joe Biden’s cabinet reflects the demographics of the country — 55% people of color and 45% women.

Meanwhile, Trump’s cabinet has discovered there is no life after kissing his ass. Bill Barr’s law firm won’t rehire him. Corporations have snubbed Mike Pompeo. Headhunters can’t find anyone to take Elaine Chao’s head. Nobody that was still standing with Trump in 2020 has been invited to join S&P 500 boards, which is a common reward for people leaving presidential administrations.

Two weeks ago, Kim Janey made history when she became the first Black person and first woman mayor of Boston. Yesterday Tishaura Jones made the same history by becoming the first black female mayor of St Louis. She ran as the most progressive candidate, supporting ending cash bail and decriminalizing sex work.

Biden is making sure that he nominates judges who reflect America. He announced 11 nominees — “the earliest any administration has announced this many judges in modern history. They represent the best of the legal profession and the diversity that makes our nation strong.” Three women were nominated in one day and, if confirmed, could result in the first Muslim federal judge in the country’s history, the first AAPI woman to serve on the D.C. District Court, and the first woman of color as a federal judge in Maryland. More women of color making history!

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis will not prosecute Rep. Park Cannon who was arrested for knocking on the KKK’s door while Governor Brian Kemp signed SB 202, Georgia’s Jim Crow voting bill, into law.

Jeff Bezos endorsed both Biden’s infrastructure plan and corporate tax hike.

500,000 new people have health insurance now after singing up for Obamacare because the government made it much easier for them to do so.

Everybody who got busted for pot in New York will get their records expunged now that it’s legal.

Joe Biden said he ran for President for 3 reasons — to restore the soul of the nation, rebuild the middle class, and unite the country. He’s doing it without ANY support from the Republicans, many of whom have worked with Biden in the Senate for decades. They know his character and respect him, but they’re Republicans so they’ll fuck him over without thinking twice.

“I think this generation can be marked by the competition between democracies and autocracies, because the world is changing so rapidly — we have to show the world, we have to show ourselves that democracy works.” — President Joe Biden

What President Biden is doing with covid/public health, infrastructure/public strength, and gun violence/public safety is very popular with a great majority of the country. It’s just not popular in Congress because most representatives do not represent their constituents. The Senate is 50–50 but Dems represent 41 million more Americans. Republiqans can hold on to the filibuster to keep afloat all they want but Biden and the Dems have figured out a way around them. They can solve serious, life threatening, urgent problems (that Republicans caused) without them.

Government can do big things when we put the right people in charge.
