Headlines
Trump is pretty high right now after breaking through and making headlines yesterday. A federal appeals court temporarily halted the Select Committee’s request for White House documents. He released a video honoring veterans for Veterans Day and made it all about himself, vowing to return, and he released a formal statement on his TFG letterhead (The Former Guy or That Fucking Guy) saying that he has an envoy ambassador, Rick Grenell, who is conducting foreign policy at the Kosovo/Serbia border on his behalf because he’s still president (the button at the bottom of his statement says, “Donate to Save America.”) An audio recording of an interview he gave to journalist Jon Karl came out where he defended the insurrectionists. When asked about them chanting, “Hang Mike Pence!” he said that was just “common sense.” They were really angry because they had good reason to be angry. He’s still the president.
Inflation is global because of the pandemic. The world’s economy has been traumatized by covid too. It’s not just here in the US but you wouldn’t know that if you just read right wing headlines. The mainstream media isn’t helping because it’s not explaining inflation within a global context and pointing out America’s successes — wages are up, unemployment is down, the stock market is strong, and the cash benefits to kids for the past 4 months means people are spending money. They just can’t get everything they want because the supply chain has been strained due to lost and delayed production times. The world shut down, remember? America’s service based economy went through a shock because everybody stayed home for a year. Working from home became the new normal and people were spending money online and having everything delivered. Now that there is a vaccine and things are starting to normalize, various sectors in the economy are getting turned back on at different times and at different rates which is throwing things off. “Pandemic economy” is a real thing and it should be showing us, once again, that the world is small and we can’t do everything on our own. We are interdependent. Things will settle and it isn’t Joe Biden’s fault.
Paramedic Gaige Grosskreutz, the only person who was shot by Kyle Rittenhouse who didn’t die said on the witness stand, “I think the most important thing to remember is that Kyle Rittenhouse was an active shooter, he murdered two men, and he attempted to murder me.” The names of the two who were killed by Kyle Rittenhouse with a gun he didn’t legally own, made by straw purchase in a city he doesn’t live in, are Anthony Huber, 26 and Joseph Rosenbaum, 36. Kyle Rittenhouse’s fans, who are paying for his legal defense, say that the dead had it coming and are confident that their hero will walk and when he does, they will raise him up as a martyred celebrity.
“The pathetic reality is either Kyle Rittenhouse will go to prison for murder or he’ll be the keynote speaker at the 2024 Republican National Convention.” — Kaivan Shroff
Jim Crow Big Daddy Judge Bruce Schroeder in the Rittenhouse case is going for headlines of his own by yelling at prosecutors, letting his phone ring during the proceedings to the tune of Trump’s theme song, making bad jokes about Asians, and reading a cookie catalogue while sitting at the bench.
Meanwhile in the other high profile white supremacist case, a defense attorney for one of the lynchers who murdered Ahmaud Arbery said the quiet part out loud, “We don’t want any more Black pastors coming in here.” He doesn’t want his jury, which is 90% white, to be swayed.
The guy who bombed the Democratic Party headquarters in Austin, Texas got out of jail after a couple of weeks on $2,500 bail. Message received: Domestic terrorism is fine when it’s against liberals. He’s on camera breaking a storefront window at night and throwing a homemade bomb into the building and he got away with it. It would have burned to the ground if a neighbor hadn’t put the fire out.
The new governor of Virginia is getting tired of the media making a big deal out of his 17 year old son trying to vote. “There’s real confusion about where a 17 year old can vote,” he said. 17 year olds can’t vote. Does he not know that? He’s a freaking governor for cripes sake. Could he not pass a basic high school civics class? Speaking of high school, why wouldn’t his high school son know that he can’t vote until he’s 18? He did know. He broke the law.
Mitch McConnell says he’ll skip the White House signing ceremony for the bipartisan infrastructure bill because he’s a dick.
Mark Meadows was supposed to appear before the Select Committee this morning but he blew off his subpoena. Bennie Thompson had already prepared to recommend him for criminal contempt.
Headline — two recommendations for criminal contempt of Congress and counting.
