How Dare You
Republicans and gun nuts will never be convinced that guns are the problem. There is no reasoning with them. There is no appealing to their humanity and love for their own children because guns are their religion, their power, their identity, their right. Their souls are impenetrable so stop trying. The only way to save lives is to elect Democrats. Period.
In a really pathetic and desperate attempt at trying to equate guns with anything but guns, the repugs pushed their gun shot victim out in front to argue that gun control legislation won’t work because we don’t regulate anything else when people get killed. They called a press conference where Steve Scalise rambled on and on (with a mangled hip that had been shattered by bullets while he was at a congressional baseball practice game 5 years ago) and tried to compare school shootings to 9/11. “Airplanes were used as the weapon to kill thousands of people and to inflict terror on our country. There wasn’t a conversation about banning airplanes.” Pretty lame there Mr Big Shot (pun intended) Congressman. If Republicans think that putting their token shooting victim member of Congress out front to argue for no gun control makes them look reasonable, they’re insane. They look insane.
Democrat Katie Porter smacked gun lobbyist from the Heritage Foundation, Amy Swearer down during a congressional hearing about gun legislation. Amy Swearer was exasperated by having to testify again as if the hearing was a waste of her time. Katie Porter took no shit when Swearer defended no government regulation on guns. Katie compared the government regulating Pelotron treadmills after one child died from playing on one and the government’s complete inaction to do anything to protect children from being shot. She called the witness out for lying under oath. The witness was gun nut cocky and kept interrupting Katie Porter. She even said, “How dare you!” To that Katie replied, “How dare you.”
Parents of the dead in Uvalde, the little girl who covered herself in her friend’s blood to save herself, and a pediatrician who saw the horrors in the emergency room after the massacre all testified before the House Oversight Committee. The pediatrician said children had been “pulverized” and “decapitated” by bullets. “Those mothers’ cries, I will never get out of my head.” Republicans can get those stories out of their heads because they don’t even listen in the first place.
On the other hand, Republicans listen and care an awful lot when one of their Heritage Foundation’s Supreme Court justices is threatened with a gun. They don’t care about him per se, they just care about his vote which they must have to take over the country.
A guy with a gun, Nicholas John Roske was arrested near Brett Kavanaugh’s house for attempting to kidnap or murder Kavanaugh over Roe v Wade. The Republicans are on it! Mitch McConnell took to the Senate floor to demand that Democrats pass a Supreme Court security bill so taxpayers can pay for extra police protection so that 5 extremist justices can be safe while they strip citizens of more of their rights. Decapitated kids at school? Yawn. Far right Supreme Court justices who will rule in favor of guns every time? Do something! “House Democrats must pass this bill and they need to do it today. No more fiddling around with this, they need to pass it today …before the sun sets.”
Now hold on a minute. According to Republicans’ own logic and defense, all Brett Kavanaugh and his family need are more guns. Just put a gun in every room of the house and they should be fine. Looks like its time for active shooter drills for the wife, kids, and housekeepers of Supreme Court justices. That’s the world the Republicans have been fighting for. Kavanaugh should defend his property and his family by himself with lots of guns because that’s the American way. Nobody said authoritarian minority rule would be easy.
This was bound to happen. It hasn’t happened yet because libtards don’t go around with their guns hanging out threatening and intimidating people even when their rights are literally being taken away. They aren’t the ones shooting up schools, churches, and grocery stores. But there are lot more libtards than there are gun nuts and many of them own guns. It was only a matter of time before one got so mad they were willing to use violence to stop injustice. Voting isn’t working because Republicans have rigged the system. Protesting isn’t working because Republicans are unmoved by public demands. What the hell did they expect?
Tonight at 8 p.m. is the first public hearing by the Select Committee about what happened on January 6. People who don’t know who Roger Stone is or who the Proud Boys are really should tune in. The next two confirmed hearings will be on Monday, June 13 at 10 a.m. EDT and Wednesday, June 15 at 10 a.m. EDT. All major news networks, MSNBC and CNN will air it plus it can be found on CSPAN, YouTube and many other livestream platforms. Fox won’t be airing it because Fox was involved in the coup. They’re not going to lie to their viewers to just manipulate them this time. This time they’re keeping them from finding out that they were involved in the greatest crime against the country in US history.
