Constituents paddled up to Joe Manchin’s yacht to tell him to vote for the infrastructure bill. The kayaktivists have been protesting his yacht for a week (he stays on it whenever he’s in Washington.) The guy is worth $10 million and is “representing” the 6th poorest state in the nation, and he and Kyrsten Sinema are single handedly keeping the infrastructure bill, which 7 out of 10 voters approve of and 80% of West Virginians want him to vote for (including Republicans) and he’s taking his own sweet time, floating his own boat, even though his support would have a long lasting, transformative and profound impact on West Virginians and the entire country. There wasn’t a vote last night. Joe retired to his docked yacht, “Almost Heaven” (“Heaven” would be too pretentious,) stood on its bow and yelled “I’m king of the world!” to nobody.

The Senate voted to keep the government open until December but it didn’t vote on the infrastructure bills because too much attention and special treatment isn’t enough for the Homecunning King, Joe Mansion, and his queen, Kyrsten Sinema. The only thing making all of this worse is the media serving as ring announcers, turning a typical political dance into a pro-wrestling match. “Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the main event of the evening! And now, making their way to the ring, are homecunning King and Queen, Joe the Whipwreck Mansion and Kyrsten “The Body” Sinema, and their challengers, the rest of the Dems!”

Republican Governor Kristi Noem of South Dakota is in a heap of trouble. The state’s attorney general, Jason Ravnsborg, the guy who made news after he hit a guy who was on the side of the road but then left the scene even though the poor guy went through his windshield so he could sleep it off and try and say that he thought he hit a deer the next day, is investigating Kristi Noem for conflict of interest after using her power to get her daughter a job. She has called for his resignation and soon he’ll be calling for hers. Kristi is also in trouble for getting tangled up with a mega donor sending the national guard to the border. That’s not all. She has severed ties with Corey Lewandowski who we all just found out has been “advising” her………

The Republican governor of Alabama is planning on using covid relief funds, which are supposed to go towards helping residents and businesses who have been negatively impacted by the pandemic, to build more prisons.

Covid is killing rural Americans at twice the rate of people in urban areas even though people in cities live much closer to one another. When people live and work close to lots of other people, many of whom are different from them, they are privy to learning new things and understanding different points of view by becoming friendly with people they wouldn’t normally share space with if they were living with their own kind. This kind of exposure tends to open minds and hearts. When you have an open mind and heart, you’re more apt to vote Democratic. People living and dying in rural America, where people live in an insulated bubble with their own kind and never leave, tend to vote Republican and that’s killing them.

Female members of Congress are starting to open about their experiences with abortions, sharing their very personal stories publicly to call attention to the fact that women of all races, creeds, political affiliations, ages, and economic standings have abortions. Even women who live in rural white America. Congresswoman Cori Bush bravely testified before Congress about her decision to have an abortion after being raped when she was 18. She said, “It was freeing, knowing that I had options.” Congresswoman Barbara Lee, who is quite a bit older than Cori Bush, shared her painful memories of getting a back alley abortion in the 60s when she was at the top of her class at a Catholic girls school, and Pramila Jayapal shared the excruciating decision of aborting her second pregnancy after the first high risk pregnancy ended prematurely and resulted in endless hospitalizations, life saving surgeries and transfusions. It was traumatic for both baby and mom. Her baby lived and thankfully thrived, but when she got pregnant by accident a second time, it was recommended that she terminate the pregnancy because there was a very good chance that the same thing would happen again. That decision 22 years ago wasn’t easy but she doesn’t regret it.

Speaking of abortion, Brett Kavanaugh, one of the several Supreme Court justices who can’t get pregnant but believes he can use his power to deny pregnant people their constitutional right to get an abortion, has tested positive for covid. He’s been vaccinated so we’re still stuck with him.

In world news, China is rationing power which is going to mean delays in production and high prices everywhere since all commerce is connected to China in one way or another. 62 ships are floating outside of the port of Los Angeles, waiting for a chance to dock and unload. Shipments could be backed up as long as 6 weeks. This is one reason why everything is so expensive or out of stock but people living in a bubble will blame Biden.

Today is President Jimmy Carter’s 97th birthday and he’s spending it humbly at home — a man before his time, the real deal. A lifetime of public service, humility, compassion, and concern for the common good. In a world full of Trumps, Kardashians, Joe Mansions and rural bubble heads, be a Jimmy.
