Lead, Follow or Get Out of the Way
President Biden hasn’t given a press conference yet which pisses the press off. Never mind that he’s been busy as hell and has an outstanding press secretary who does a briefing every day and that he’s spoken directly to the American people from the White House several times already. It’s a non-story that the press is making into a story because they’re having Trump withdrawals and are jonesing for clicks. Come on! Lie to us!
Trump’s press conferences were reality TV segments where Trump praised himself, blamed others, lied his ass off and insulted the press. His press secretaries gave sporadic briefings where they sung Trump’s praises, gaslighted the public, and accused the press of being fake news. One of his press secretaries never even held a press conference.
President Biden will be on the road this week to educate the public about what is in the covid relief bill. Once he does do a press conference, the press will most likely ask why he isn’t giving Trump credit for the vaccine, why he leaves Washington every weekend to go home to Delaware, and why he isn’t being bi-partisan. They’re jonesing for a fight between him, the GQP and Trump and Biden won’t give it to him.

On this day in 1913 President Woodrow Wilson held the first open presidential news conference.
56 years ago today, President Lyndon Johnson addressed a joint session of Congress to urge them to pass legislation that guaranteed the right to vote for ALL Americans. “The Constitution says that no person shall be kept from voting because of his race or his color……Their cause must be our cause too. Because it is not just Negroes, but really it is all of us, who must overcome the crippling legacy of bigotry and injustice. And we shall overcome.” 5 months later on August 6, 1965 he signed the Voting Rights Act which which made it illegal to impose restrictions on federal, state and local elections that were designed to deny the vote to Black Americans.
Republiqans’ number one priority right now is voter suppression. They’re doing everything they can to keep everybody who isn’t white from voting. They’ve the gutted the Voting Rights Act with the Supreme Court’s help, they’ve gerrymandered their districts to harness racist white votes, they’ve purged people of color from voter rolls and closed polling places, and they cut the hours and number of voting machines so that people of color are forced to stand in line all day so that they’ll give up.
The Republiqan governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, made the most racist comment to denounce HR1, the For the People Act which expands voter rights and limits gerrymandering. He said it could lead to “using cocaine to buy votes.”
More unaccompanied migrant children are showing up at the border which has the Republiqans very concerned. All of a sudden they care about brown children. Qevin McCarthy is leading a group of Republiqans to the border to blame Biden for the invasion.
Republiqan Senator from Wyoming, John Barrasso, says Biden’s coronavirus relief package is false advertising. He also refused to denounce Ron Johnson for saying that he wasn’t afraid of the insurrections because they were white either. Wyoming is 91.6% white.
Republiqans are trying to take credit for covid relief after every single one of them in both the House and Senate voted against it. #youvotedagainstit
The Republiqans and the media are trying to pick a fight with Biden but he won’t take the bait. He’s been in the game for half a century and he’s not naïve. He’d like nothing better than to work with them on a bi-partisan basis but the GQP isn’t what it used to be. He knows it’s impossible. There is no time to lose. People are dying and our democracy is hanging by a thread. If they’re not interested in solving huge problems and governing, he’s going to have to do it without them.
