Murder He Underwrote

White supremacist insurrectionist Nazi QAnon weirdo Republican Paul Gosar was censured and removed from all committee assignments in a 223–207 vote. Only 2 Republicans voted yes — Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. All Dems voted yes. This has only happened 24 times in American history. He should be expelled but that takes a 2/3 vote and Republicans are all Nazis so that’s never going to happen. Republicans voted to let Paul Gosar get away with making death threats because they’re scared of getting death threats. What’s next? Getting away with murder?

After the vote the first thing Gosar did was post the same murderous video again.

Paul Gosar compared himself to Alexander Hamilton when he got a chance to defend himself on the House floor. He claimed that the Democrats’ attempt to censure him was all part of their “reckless, socialist, Marxist” agenda and then squeezed in “plague of illegal immigration.”

Madison the Kid Cawthorn used his one minute to call Joe Biden a “tyrant” who is leading a “totalitarian regime.”

Kevin McCarthy accused Nancy Pelosi of stirring up trouble by abusing her power. He stands by his Nazi member and has no problem with violent threats against Democrats or anybody else for that matter. The Republican leader in the House underwrites crimes by his own members including attempted murder, murder, and overthrowing the US government.

Lauren Boebert (whose former campaign manager just got her house raided by the FBI) said, “My colleague and 3 month presidential candidate from California, Eric Swalwell, who’s on the Intelligence Committee, slept with Fang Fang, a Chinese spy. Let me say that again. A member of Congress who receives classified briefings was sleeping with the enemy.” She also referred to colleague Ilhan Omar as the “jihad squad member from Minnesota.”

Along with Lauren Boebert’s campaign manager, the FBI also raided Tina Peters’ home, the chief election official for the Mesa County Clerk, plus 3 others suspected of voting machine security breaches in Mesa County Colorado. Federal, state and local authorities were all involved in the raid. These Republican election officials messed with voting machines and posted passwords online.

Because Liz Cheney is putting country before party and isn’t a Nazi, the Wyoming Republican Party voted to no longer recognize her as a member of the GOP in a 31–29 vote. The irony is lost on them. Republicans, who have made such a thing out of “cancel culture” have cancelled Liz Cheney.

New Hampshire governor Chris Sununu has rejected a bid for US Senate because he doesn’t want to have anything to do with Mitch McConnell.

As the Republicans sink further into lawlessness, totalitarianism, and white supremacism, Democrats are trying to govern on their own, without bragging.

Trump took credit for EVERYTHING but did NOTHING, Republicans take credit for the Democrats, and the Democrats are too other minded and humble that they’re making the huge mistake of thinking that if they do the right thing, people will notice and everything will be hunky dorey. They don’t brag because it’s not in their nature. Hurry up and brag, Democrats! BRAG!!!!!!! The average American doesn’t pay that much attention to politics. They’re only catching the stuff that the Republicans so skillfully put out there with strategic sound bytes, aided by the mainstream media which only intermittingly reports all the good stuff that the Democrats are doing. BRAG, Dems! BRAG!

Case in point — the media is falling all over itself letting Chris Christie, who helped build the Trump monster, reinvent himself by giving him nonstop coverage while he pimps his new bullshit book. While they’re covering him, they’re not covering the Dems, or the urgent existential threats to our democracy, or the evil Republican party (the GOP has successfully got the media on perpetual defense — it’s contanstly trying to prove it’s not “liberal” by going easy on them,) or climate change, or the impact of the global pandemic on inflation, or white supremacy. It’s too much work to dive deep and none of that stuff gets as many clicks as petty bullshit.

“In the last 24 hours, Chris Christie has received more press attention than the passing of the Infrastructure bill. Think about how insane that is.” — Don Winslow

The QAnon Shaman has been sentenced to 41 months in jail, 10 months less than what the prosecution asked for. He made a fool of himself at the sentencing and compared himself to Gandhi and others. He told the judge, “What if we judged Jesus based on the fact that he overturned the merchant tables?”

Travis McMichael, one of the three white supremacists charged for the murder of an unarmed black man, Ahmaud Arbery, broke down on the witness stand when he recalled how much fear he was in when he and his dad followed the jogging man in their truck holding their guns. They had to shoot him.

The judge in the Rittenhouse trial has been following press coverage of himself and he doesn’t like it. He doesn’t like how he’s being portrayed and says he’ll think long and hard before ever letting the cameras in his courtroom again. Prosecutors will think long and hard before ever bringing a case to him again. He referred to the one African American juror as “a black, the black, the only black.” A buffoon is presiding over a double murder trial.

“What do the Kyle Rittenhouse trial, the killing of Ahmaud Arbery trial, and the Paul Gosar censure all have in common? Half of this country has stopped believing that murdering people is universally wrong.” — Brian Tyler Cohen
