Dr. Rick Bright, the head of the federal agency that has been working on developing a coronavirus vaccine, was fired (transferred to a much less impactful position in a different department) for criticizing Trump’s promotion of the drug prescribed for malaria, hydroxychloroquine, as a miracle cure for the coronavirus. He had been at this job for 4 years and has spent his entire career getting ready for this moment. He wrote, “My professional background has prepared me for a moment like this — to confront and defeat a deadly virus that threatens Americans and people around the globe. To this point, I have led the government’s efforts to invest in the best science available to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, this resulted in clashes with HHS political leadership, including criticism for my proactive efforts to invest early in vaccines and supplies critical to saving American lives. I also resisted efforts to fund potentially dangerous drugs promoted by those with political connections. Specifically, and contrary to misguided directives, I limited the broad use of chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, promoted by the Administration as a panacea, but which clearly lack scientific merit.” He was sidelined in the middle of a pandemic and is calling Trump out for “placing politics and cronyism ahead of science which puts lives at risk and stunts national efforts to safely and effectively address this urgent public health crisis.” He is calling on the Inspector General of the HHS to investigate Trump’s politicizing the work of the agency he headed and for pressuring him and other conscientious scientists to fund companies with political connections as well as efforts that lack scientific merit. “Science, in service to the health and safety of the American people, must always trump politics.”

Science should Trump politics but not if the GOP isn’t defeated in its entirety in November.

After a reporter asked Trump about the administration’s treatment of Dr. Bright, Trump got defensive, as usual. “Why do you say he has great gifts? Do you know him? Have you reviewed him? Have you studied him?” The reporter answered, “He worked his entire career developing vaccines.” Trump snapped back, “That doesn’t mean he has gifts. I know a lot of people who play baseball who can’t hit 150.”

Awhile later Trump said he’s never heard of the guy.

Trump hasn’t talked about hydroxychloroquine for a week.

Trump threated to fire another government agency expert, Nancy Messonnier, the CDC’s chief of respiratory diseases, back in February because she was telling people that the CDC was preparing for a potential pandemic.

Trump is going to waste a bunch of money on the Trump Blue Angels flying over cities as a tribute to health care workers and himself.

Republican hypocrite fun fact: Fox News has had nearly 100 segments pontificating about and promoting the stay-at-home orders protests while broadcasting from the safety and comfort of their own homes.

Laura Ingraham made fun of CNN employees who had the coronavirus on her show. The name of her segment was called, “Are you sicker than a CNN anchor? The reality show masquerading as a news network.”

CNN’s Chris Cuomo’s 14 year old son just found out he has the coronavirus.

Trump tweeted: States are safely coming back. Our Country is starting to OPEN FOR BUSINESS again. Special care is, and always will be, given to our beloved seniors (except me!). Their lives will be better than ever…WE LOVE YOU ALL!

After he tweeted that and the Republican governors announced they were re-opening their states (to please Trump,) he started back tracking a few hours later to save his own ass. He won’t be sending the Trump Blue Angels to those states.

Mayor Carolyn Goodman of Las Vegas has offered up her city as a control group for re-opening for business. She doesn’t have a plan or guidelines for this even though she’s the mayor. She says business owners need to figure that out. “They better figure it out. That’s their job.” When asked if she was planning on visiting any casinos after they opened she said no because she has a family.

Former governor of Arkansas and Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ dad, Mike Huckabee, is excited about the south rising again. “Georgia opening hair salons and tattoo parlors Friday. I’m driving to Georgia this weekend to get a haircut and tattoo!”

Republican governors are trying to seduce people by luring them to their states by showing off their unique amenities. Come on in, everybody, the water is fine. Come. Come! Spend your money. Enjoy yourselves! Be free! Be free!

What’s that up there? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it Superman? No. It’s the Trump Blue Angels. Whatever. Go back inside.
