Pass the Torch

After 52 years of campaigning, 6 consecutive wins in the US Senate resulting in 36 years of service, then winning the presidential race three times; twice as vice president and once as president, President Biden told the nation it was time for him to step down in a speech from the Oval Office with 39 family members and staffers in the room. He’s going out at the very top of his game. He is the first president in history to give a withdrawal speech from the Oval Office for a campaign that he already won.

Joe Biden passed the torch to a younger generation last night. In a historic, selfless fashion he said he was doing it for the good of the nation and that it was up to us, the American people, to finish passing the torch with our votes. He told the country, “Whether we keep our republic is now in your hands. My fellow Americans, it has been the privilege of my life to serve this nation for over 50 years. Nowhere else on earth could a kid with a stutter from modest beginnings in Scranton and Claymont one day sit behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office as president of the United States. But here I am. That’s what’s so special about America.”

Joe Biden is just the kind of leader George Washington envisioned for the country. He himself only served two terms, not because it was a rule, but because he didn’t think the president should serve more than two terms else he be king. The goal was to keep things fresh and give others a chance to serve. In his farewell address, George Washington affirmed that America and all of the chances to serve it belonged to the American people. Joe Biden did what George Washington would have done. Washington could have stayed president until he died, he was that popular with both parties and the people, but he led by example and stepped down, just as Joe Biden did. Very few presidents have done anything like this.

Biden made a masterful transition by withdrawing from the race and endorsing Kamala. They beat the Republicans at their own game. That’s another first! Democrats are notorious for losing because they play fair. While Republicans ignore and burn up the rules, Democrats still stand by them which is virtuous but they get mowed over. Republicans, on the other hand, care nothing about doing the right thing. They play dirty. All. The. Time. Passing the torch in the middle of the game didn’t break any rules and it wasn’t dirty but it was a surprise. Republicans aren’t just in disarray, they’re torched.

Kamala Harris and her campaign understand what the new “rules” are and are already playing by them. They sent out an email with “Statement on a 78-Year-Old Criminal’s Fox News Appearance” in the subject line then released their first official campaign video, “We Choose Freedom.”

“They want chaos, fear and hatred. We want freedom — freedom over gun violence and freedom over our own bodies.” They showed clips and images that frame Trump as a sleazy womanizer and criminal. Beyonce let her use her song “Freedom” for the video. Trump never asks for permission to use songs. He just does it and worries about getting sued later.

Kamala got the ultimate endorsement from her husband’s ex-wife, film producer Kerstin Emhoff. Republicans are going after Kamala Harris because she’s not a real woman because she hasn’t birthed any kids of her own. Kerstin Emhoff came to her defense by telling the New York Times, “These are baseless attacks. For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has been a co-parent with Doug and I. She is loving, nurturing, fiercely protective, and always present. I love our blended family and am grateful to have her in it.”

MAGA Republican from Tennessee, Andy Ogles introduced articles of impeachment against Kamala Harris for high crimes and misdemeanors.

Joe Biden said in his speech last night that he was going to do something about the Supreme Court before his term is up. Now that the Supreme Court has made him a king and given him unlimited power (George Washington’s worst nightmare), he can put his political enemies in jail, like Trump, and fire the justices that gave him all that power.

Let’s go Brandon.
