First thing in the morning, after the anti-abortion, anti-public education, anti-history, anti-government, anti-everybody who isn’t white candidate, Glenn Youngkin won in Virginia, House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy summoned the press to announce that from here on out the fragile white Republicans will be running on a white nationalist platform. They’re going to release a fragile white “parents’ bill of rights” and said, “You have a right to know what’s being taught in school. You have a right to participate.” The Republicans will use Critical Race Theory as often as abortion until the midterm elections. Poke the polar bear!
It was never about the economy, conservatism, or policy for today’s Republicans. It’s always been about white supremacy.
Kevin McCarthy’s announcement that the fragile white Republican party is the new white nationalist party ironically came on the third day of the Kyle Rittenhouse trial. His attorney used the “n” word twice in his opening statement and argued that that his fragile white client was justified in shooting the guy carrying a skateboard because you could decapitate someone with that thing. Kyle Rittenhouse’s fragile white defense is self defense. He crossed state lines to hunt protesters at a Black Lives Matter protest and now he’s claiming self defense? Prosecutors pointed out that he was the only one who killed anybody that night. Another troubled fragile white boy could get away with murder again. While out on a $2 million bond that Trump’s QAnon lawyer, Lin Wood, helped him raise he was photographed in a bar wearing a “free as fuck” t-shirt. Poor little fragile white boy hanging out with the Proud Boys in the bar.
Once again, Senate Republicans blocked the voting rights bill because they’re RACIST. This is the third time this year. The only Republican senator to support the debate was Lisa Murkowski who represents a whole lot of indigenous people up in Alaska. Everybody else wants to keep things tighty whitey.
The fragile white Republicans have been abusing the filibuster, a tool that the Senate uses to give the minority party some power, since Mitch McConnell rose to power. A simple majority isn’t required to pass bills in the Senate. You have to have 60. The Senate is split 50/50 between Dems and Republicans, but the Republicans hold power over the Dems because they have the filibuster. They can invoke it and refuse to debate whenever they want to and they do.
Filibuster fun fact: The filibuster doesn’t apply to the issues that Republicans care about such as tax cuts and judicial nominations. It only applies to the stuff that Democrats care about, like voting rights. It’s a Republican tool of obstruction and it has got to go. All it takes is a simple majority vote to eliminate it but Democrats in name only Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin won’t do it.
Voting rights fun fact: The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was presented as an act to “enforce the Fifteenth Amendment” (Section 1 — The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude, and Section 2 — The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.)
If the Dems can’t get rid of the Senate filibuster (the House already did that in 1842), then it needs to modify it or set it aside for voting rights. Democrats in Congress represent way more Americans than Republicans do. They shouldn’t be able to block the majority with the filibuster but since the GOP is the out and proud, cheating white nationalist party now, the filibuster will live on unless Lisa Murkowski can get Mitt Romney to show up for voting rights like he did BLM protesters.
The media and talking heads were hyper focused on the Dems’ big loss in Virginia Tuesday night and ignored all the wins in other states. It also failed to mention that Virginians voting for the opposite party from the White House happens all the time (it would have been more newsworthy if he had won.)
The elections for governor in New Jersey and Virginia are always a year after the presidential election and ever since the 80s, voters have voted opposite of the president’s party. Virginia hasn’t elected an incumbent once since 1977. The Dems losing in Virginia wasn’t really news. Dems keeping New Jersey blue was. It was a major win for Democrats but the media is screaming red alert……Biden and the Democrats are in trouble!
The media is ignoring the fact that once the 2 Democratic bills get passed, the country will get a reset and a jump start into a new era. Instead, it stays focused on the fight which isn’t really a fight but a normal part of the process. The media has got serious withdrawals from being addicted to reporting on Trump’s nonstop insanity. They’re under pressure to keep outrage alive. Joe Biden isn’t out to make news so “Biden and the Democrats are in trouble!” becomes news.
Poke the bear. Poke the bear!
Democrats didn’t scream “Recount!” or “Rigged!” after they lost in Virginia. They accepted their defeat and celebrated the wins that the mainstream media ignored.
