Politics as Usual
The second week of 2022 has begun and it’s not politics as usual. The great American experiment is teetering on the edge of totalitarianism and one party, which is no longer an actual political party, is poised to take control of federal, state and local governments BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY and the other party is working to save democracy by investigating the Republican coup and protecting voting rights ON TOP of doing all of the other stuff that needs to get done if it were politics as usual.
Metal detectors are still up in the Capitol because Republicans want to bring their guns, members of Congress hate and distrust each other, and Democrats fear their colleagues on the other side of the aisle. They’re more afraid of Republicans than they are of another attack. That’s not politics as usual.
Kamala Harris was inside the DNC building when the pipe bomb was planted outside on the evening of January 5, 2022. That’s not politics as usual.
At least 57 Trump cult followers who played a role in the attack on January 6, including some who were arrested, are running for office in 2022. People who were involved in a failed coup running for elected office is not politics as usual.
The Select Committee is considering Investigating the former president of the United States for criminal conspiracy. That’s not politics as usual.
The Select Committee is considering looking at the White House’s role in dictating to Republican members of Congress orders to object to electoral vote proceedings to obstruct Congress. This could lead to criminal referrals of MEMBERS OF CONGRESS PARTICIPATING IN A FAILED COUP. That’s not politics as usual.
It’s been 6 months since the Select Committee was formed. The Select Committee is the first congressional committee without any GOP clowns, grand standers, and detractors making a scene for the cameras in order to pass on Republican talking points to a wide audience. Given that the Republican party has been incapable of actually legislating and governing for decades, that’s not politics as usual.
Jim Jordan, the most famous committee clown in Congress, sent a letter to the chair of the Select Committee to say he will not cooperate with the committee which is curious. He loves performing for the cameras and hogging the moment in committee hearings. This could be his big moment! Why not take it? That’s not Republican politics as usual.
Marco Rubio tweeting bullshit about the Democrats is Republican politics as usual: The upscale liberals who control the media and Democrat party believe Jan 6th was another Pearl Harbor or 9/11. And the rest of America, including many Democrats, think they are nuts.
Conspiracy theorist Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, who spent July 4th in Moscow and kisses Trump’s ass like a winner, is running for re-election. That’s Republican politics as usual.
Teddy Daniels is running for Congress in Pennsylvania. He was in the military and fought in Iraq. He also was part of the mob that attacked the Capitol. He says it’s unfair that the left and the mainstream media have labeled him an insurrectionist. That’s Republican politics as usual.
Rafael Rafidi, who was at the Stop the Steal rally, just got sworn in as a school board member in Louisiana’s largest school district. He blames teachers for “the fall of our young people in this country.” That’s Republican politics as usual.
Doug Kuzma is dead. He’s the far right podcast host who caught covid at a QAnon convention which killed him. His fellow QAnon weirdos say he died from an Anthrax attack. That’s new, lunatic right wing politics that Republicans have embraced because they need those votes which has become politics as usual since Trump.
SCOTUS met to hear the case about the government making people get vaccinated in order to show up to work. Two of the attorneys had to participate remotely because they had covid. Neil Gorsuch, sitting in Merrick Garland’s seat, refused to wear a mask so Justice Sotomayor, who has diabetes and normally sits next to him, had to participate remotely. That’s become politics as usual. A public health crisis has been politicized in order to divide the country and put Republicans in power.
Covid is here to stay because too many people refuse to get vaccinated. Democrats got us out of this mess as best they can, but they couldn’t “fix it.” The federal government has done everything it can and should to “fix it” but it’s hit a wall that Trump built. The blame for this is on Republican members of Congress and governors, the unvaccinated and quite possibly the Supreme Court, which has become politics as usual since Trump.
