Hurricane Ian is being referred to as a “once in a thousand-year event.” The entire state of Florida has been impacted by it, but the southwest coast got hit the hardest. Lee County doesn’t have any running water, the power lines are down, and it’s still flooded. A lot of retirees live in Florida and their families live in other states. There are also a lot of mobile home communities in Florida. Mobile homes are the last place you want to be during a Category 4 hurricane. Damages are just beginning to be assessed. Hurricane Ian will hit South Carolina today.
In a press conference Ron DeSantis said, “In terms of the overall infrastructure, obviously we will seek federal support for that, but also Florida, we are well positioned financially right now to get through this.” He then asked people to donate money to a fund that he himself set up specifically for the victims of Hurricane Ian. DO NOT SEND MONEY TO RON DESTANTIS. Send it to the American Red Cross. Beware of hurricane scammers, specifically Ron DeSantis. Sending money to DeSantis intended for hurricane victims will poof! Disappear.
Florida prides itself on not having state income tax. Where did all this money come from that DeSantis says they have on hand if they don’t have state income tax? There is no state estate tax. The corporate income tax is 5.5% and the average combined state and local sales tax rate is 7%. The average Florida homeowner pays $1,752 each year in property taxes. That sounds great if you don’t want to pay taxes but when the shit hits the fan, who pays to clean up the shit that has blown all over everywhere? Blue states like California and New York do. Blue states aren’t haters so there won’t be any hateful rhetoric coming from the Democrats like happens with the Republicans whenever taxpayer money goes to help people (most recently 6 red states are blocking Biden’s loan forgiveness plan).
Ron DeSantis had no problem making mandatory evacuation orders for a hurricane but wouldn’t make anything mandatory to keep Floridians from getting sick and dying from COVID.
In the weeks to come, after people begin to reckon with the death, loss of property, and the change to the coastline, another really huge problem will make everything way worse. Property insurance markets have collapsed under DeSantis’ leadership.
Trump stayed at Mar-a-Lago during the storm to get out of having to do a deposition with the lawyers from the SDNY who wanted to question him about ripping people off during the filming of his reality TV show, The Apprentice. They offered to meet him near his club in New Jersey but he said no. Either you guys fly into Palm Beach during a major storm or forget it. And poof! Trump gets out of answering to the law once again!
Novice MAGA judge Aileen Cannon had the nerve to do one more really stupid thing — she overruled Judge Dearie’s order for Trump to present him with evidence that the FBI planted documents to set him up. She’s embarrassing herself but she’s too inept to know it. The DOJ is appealing. A snot nosed, corrupt, Trump pick, bossing a highly respected, accomplished and esteemed judge with decades of experience around is a really bad career move and an insult to the profession, but that’s the Trump way. Aileen Cannon is serving as Trump’s defense attorney now just like Bill Barr did. DOJ is appealing so all this will accomplish is another delay which is Trump’s way.
The American Freedom Tour, the company that produces Trump’s MAGA rallies so he can grift his cult devotees by selling them tickets for the same show hasn’t been paying their vendors and are about to go bankrupt so they have cancelled their events. One more source of income for Trump is poof, gone!
The Russians aren’t only inside Congress and the Republican Party, but they’re in the military too. An Army physician and her anesthesiologist wife have been federally indicted for trying to give medical information about patients and their families to the Russians.
Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska was just indicted for evading US sanctions. Mitch McConnell got the sanctions lifted on him and poof! Hundreds of millions of dollars were invested in an aluminum operation in Kentucky.
And we have another case of election tampering! James Holkeboer, a poll worker in Michigan who worked during the primary last month, inserted a flash drive into a computer in order to change votes. He was charged with falsifying election records and using a computer to commit a crime. If convicted, he could go to jail for 9 years. Michigan is a fake electors state. Holkeboer is a Republican. They’re always Republicans.
Justice Samuel Alito is pissed off that people are critical of the Supreme Court. “Saying or implying that the court is becoming an illegitimate institution or questioning our integrity crosses an important line.” Ummmmmm……… Alito was the impetus for reversing Roe v Wade, 3 of the justices were appointed by a twice impeached Russian asset who is under federal investigation, and the wife of another justice was involved in a coup.
Ginni Thomas testified before the Select Committee for 4 hours, confident that she’ll suffer no consequences because she’s a MAGA Republican, the wife of a Supreme Court justice, white and well connected in Washington, and rich. Poof!
