Americans are dying at a rate of one every 32 seconds. We have the most cases and the worst death rate in the entire world. If that wasn’t dark enough, the country’s dark side is on full display for the entire world to see. Republican governors are re-opening their states because they care more about the economy than they do about people. Live Free or Die is the Republican motto. Priorities. Attorney General Bill Barr said if governors don’t cut it out and send people back to work he’ll have to intervene because making people stay home is equivalent to house arrest. He will take legal action against them because these restrictions on civil liberties have gone “too far.” Economic health over public health. Priorities. The Republican Lieutenant Governor of Texas says it’s time to take some risks and everybody needs to get to work — “There are more important things than living.” Priorities. Nurses in scrubs and masks demonstrated in front of the White House demanding PPE while reading the names of their colleagues that had died from the coronavirus. They barely got any news coverage because the media was busy covering small groups of MAGAs yelling about service businesses needing to open so they can service them. Priorities.
Over 40,000 have died under his watch and Trump’s priorities are his ratings and poll numbers. He tweeted: I’ve had great “ratings” my whole life, there’s nothing unusual about that for me. The White House News Conference ratings are “through the roof”(Monday Night Football, Bachelor Finale, @nytimes) but I don’t care about that. I care about going around the Fake News to the PEOPLE!
With most of the planet hunkered down at home, the scientists are being proven right about climate change as the earth begins to rejuvenate itself. The air is much cleaner. Lakes and oceans have settled. Wildlife has wandered into spaces that have been taken over by humans which should be the evidence we need to understand that the earth doesn’t need us. We need the earth. Still, Trump lets his priorities show by tweeting that he plans on bailing out the oil industry: We will never let the great U.S. Oil & Gas Industry down. I have instructed the Secretary of Energy and Secretary of the Treasury to formulate a plan which will make funds available so that these very important companies and jobs will be secured long into the future!
Trump is preoccupied now with prioritizing immigration again to get his supporters riled up and focused on Mexicans taking the jobs that they lost due to the coronavirus. He’s going to sign an executive order that will stop immigration into the country. US citizens won’t get coronavirus stimulus checks if their spouses are immigrants and Jared Kushner is working on plans for a “border wall cam,” so Trump’s racist base can see images of construction crews working on the wall live streamed in real time.
7 voters so far in Wisconsin have tested positive because they prioritized exercising their right to vote over being oppressed by Republicans.
Real Housewife of Chatanooga and part time US Senator Marsha Blackburn has written a bill that would allow people to sue China if they get the coronavirus because blaming everybody but themselves is a priority of the GOP.
The dark side of capitalism is surfacing in many ways as a result of the pandemic. One of the priorities of capitalism is exploiting labor. Workers are getting paid more with unemployment than they did working their asses of for shitty pay. Republicans are upset about this. Now they are in a bit of panic because workers are going to want a federal minimum wage again before this is all over and they can’t have that. Priorities.
Trump is using the government to steal medical supplies from states. He is prioritizing his private stockpile over the lives of health care workers. He had FEMA seize 400,000 N95 masks in Delaware and stiffed the medical supplier out of millions of dollars.
20 year old JT Lewis is a Republican running for state senate in Connecticut. His brother was one of the little boys who was shot at Sandy Hook. He’s running on the more guns in schools platform. He tweeted: Unpopular take: didn’t nurses and doctors sign up for this? I have respect for the great job they’re doing, but this is exactly what they signed up for.
Trump’s company wants a break on its lease with the government for his hotel in Washington DC. He pays the government $3 million a year to lease the building. Bleeding Gums Eric has asked that they not prioritize relief to other tenants over them. They want to be treated like everyone else.
With all of the panic, fear, grief, and shock that Americans are experiencing every minute of every day, Trump has yet to say anything comforting to the nation. He hasn’t expressed any sorrow for those who have died. His priority is himself. He thinks about himself constantly. He talks about himself incessantly. He craves attention non stop and he gets it nonstop because the media and Twitter won’t cut him off.
