Promised Land
A white guy from the white supremacist YouTube channel, Right Side Broadcasting Network, interviewed white people standing in line for Trump’s first white supremacist event of the year, the Save America MAGA rally in Arizona. The “reporter” asked one of them about Trump getting reinstated. The guy said he was sure he would get to see Trump’s promised land, but just in case, he’s preparing to survive off of his own land. He said, “I do my research every day and I trust that something is happening behind the scenes. We’re looking to move off grid and learn how to raise our own food and be prepared for what’s coming if the thing doesn’t get overturned.”
Inside the rally, Black people in matching white shirts with “Blacks for Trump” written in black letters on the front were strategically placed right behind the stage to serve as a backdrop for all of the deranged white supremacist speakers. The My Pillow Guy made a fool of himself as usual, Arizona QAnon Congressman Paul Gosar spazzed at the mic, QAnon kook Kelli Ward, chair of the Arizona GOP, yelled about voter fraud and said they needed to get rid of ballot boxes AND Dominion! Will the RNC pay her legal fees, like they are Trump’s, after Dominion sues her for slander?
A 20 year Fox News veteran, Trump-endorsed Kari Lake, took to the stage and went on a hyped up rant about all of the people she wanted to lock up after she becomes governor of Arizona, “I want to lock somebody down, and it’s that liar Dr. Fauci….anybody who was involved in that corrupt shady, shoddy election of 2020. Lock them up.”
Then King Trump walked on stage, wearing a MAGA hat but no tie. He didn’t say anything new except “The Big Lie, The Big Lie is a lot of bullshit.” He inadvertantly announced his run for 2024 by saying he’d be “staging a comeback the likes of which nobody has seen.” He went on to say everything he’d say on Twitter if he could still tweet: The election was stolen, everybody but the Republicans who kiss his ass are all corrupt, he didn’t have anything to do with the attack on the Capitol, blah blah blah blah boo hoo blah blah.
He accused the FBI and the cops of letting the very fine people into the Capitol. “Exactly how many of those present at the Capitol complex on January 6th were FBI confidential informants, agents or otherwise working directly or indirectly with an agency of the United States government?” He defended the patriots who had been arrested and those who were sitting in jail. He said they’ve being unfairly treated. They “are living in hell…..they’re being hounded … the showers are disgusting. The bathrooms are horrible… if we think they’re innocent, we should help them defend themselves….they’re being persecuted!” He made a martyr out of Ashli Babbitt by accusing the officer who shot her of killing her without cause. He shot “Ashli Babbitt for no reason….he’s a disgrace for how he shot Ashli.”
After justifying what took place on January 6, 2021, he delivered on the usual, highly anticipated racist rhetoric by telling the white crowd that they were all victims. He said white people are being discriminated against on covid treatment — “If you’re white, you don’t get the vaccine or if you’re white you don’t get therapeutics .. In New York state, if you’re white, you go to the back of the line if you want help.” Nobody in the crowd was wearing masks even though Arizona just hit 20,000 cases in one day and Republican Governor Doug Ducey (who Trump doesn’t like anymore) has asked for federal military paramedics to come to his state to handle the overflow of patients in hospitals.
While Trump was getting the racist mob worked up to commit another act of terrorism on his behalf, the FBI that he had just attacked was freeing 4 people who had been taken hostage by a terrorist during services at a synagogue near Dallas, Texas including the rabbi.
He says these horrible things because he gets away with it and he knows he will continue to get away with it because the Republicans will make sure of it.
It’s Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday today. His family prefers that this day not be celebrated because there has been no voting rights legislation thanks to Republicans in ithe Senate who will never vote for it and Democrats in name only Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona and Joe Manchin of West Virginia.
Instead of sharing famous MLK quotes today, MLK’s daughter, Bernice King has asked everybody to take this day and reflect on this one instead — “I think the tragedy is that we have a Congress with a Senate that has a minority of misguided senators who will use the filibuster to keep the majority of people from even voting.” That was 6 decades ago.
Republicans will be quoting MLK a lot today, but they’ll ignore Bernice. They’ll go with the same, easy, famous and misconstrued quotes to sell a product — their own bullshit.
MLK’s last speech in Memphis the night before he was assassinated was prophetic. He knew he was going to die but he wasn’t afraid because he’d been to the mountaintop. He talked about God letting him pick any time in human history to go back to. After taking the audience on a tour of the major events of human history he said if he were able to get to pick a time to live in again he’d pick now because he got to be part of great change. He emphasized that our survival demands that we grapple with the problems mankind has been grappling with for too long. The whole world is doomed if we don’t change.
“We’ve got some difficult days ahead but it really doesn’t matter with me now, because I’ve been to the mountaintop … I’ve seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land.”
Per the family’s request, don’t celebrate MLK’s birthday today. Just pass it on:
“I think the tragedy is that we have a Congress with a Senate that has a minority of misguided senators who will use the filibuster to keep the majority of people from even voting.”
