Trump and the “Secretary of War” Pete Hegseth (nicknamed Kegseth because he’s a drunk) called 800 top admirals and generals from around the globe to attend a MAGA rally in Virginia. Pete put on a show worthy of a Fox News audience, including talk about God. He told the apolitical audience to get political and embrace his new branding of the Department of Defense to the Department of War. The department is no longer concerned with national security and defense as its primary function, but to be ready and eager for warfare. The point of Pete’s pep talk was to restore America’s warrior ethos. He called out “fat” generals and enlisted members and said there would be an end to that. He made a lot of sexist remarks that were meant to make female services feel unwelcome in the military. Women in combat roles will be expected to meet the same physical standards as men. This will have huge, long lasting ramifications. Same with “diversity” and “political correctness.” The military is for cis gender white males only. They must be physically fit and well groomed and adhere to “the highest male standard.” He gave the crowd an ultimatum: Give us complete loyalty and go along with the plan to use military force against “the enemy within” or get out.
He wants the military to use Democratic run cities as training grounds.
It was a huge security risk to have all the top generals, the Secretary of Defense, and the President all in one place at the same time, on TV for all the world to see.
Hegseth said he’s loosening disciplinary rules and weakening hazing protections. He also said that the Pentagon was going to overhaul inspector general and equal opportunity office rules to “reduce complaints.”
He fired several generals and admirals during the first months on the job, mostly Black service members and women, including the chair of the joint chiefs, CQ Brown. Back in November he said, “First of all, you’ve got to fire the chairman of the joint chiefs. Any general that was involved, general, admiral, or whatever, that was involved in any of that DEI woke shit has got to go.”
Hegseth ended with, “To our enemies………..FAFO.” No applause. Dead silence.
For Trump’s part, he did his usual canned MAGA speech to no applause. He told them he had never experienced that before and encouraged them to applaud (he told them they were free to leave too but if they did there goes their rank). They never clapped. Or smiled. They sat there, quiet and expressionless which is a good sign. They may not be ready and willing to fire on US citizens like they are being called to do. They had to sit there and listen to the bullshit from a former TV host who was promoted over them just because he was on Fox News and sucked up to Trump, a convicted felon.
As of midnight, the federal government is shut down. Trump’s last government shut down was the longest one in US history, costing taxpayers billions in industry, trade, manufacturing, hospitality and tourism losses. Here we go again.
JD Vance says the Democrats shut down the government because they are demanding free healthcare for “illegal immigrants.” The Democrats are powerless to do just about anything because Republicans control the House, Senate, and White House. Here we go again.
