The Colorado Supreme Court, which convenes in the Mile High City of Denver, ruled in a 200 page opinion that Trump violated the 14th amendment of the Constitution and can’t be on the Colorado ballot because he’s an insurrectionist. He’s disqualified from running for president in Colorado. A lower judge in Colorado ruled that Trump engaged in an insurrection but he didn’t violate the 14th amendment because he wasn’t an officer. The Colorado Supreme Court said yes he was an officer. Of all the court messes Trump is embroiled in this ruling is the most significant so far. Now it’s up to the federal Supreme Court. Will it refuse the case and let the Colorado Supreme Court ruling stand allowing for other states to follow or will it take up the case to rule in Trump’s favor or will it save democracy once and for all?
The Supreme Court could blow off the 14th amendment and take the stand that democracy means that they let the voters decide if Trump should be president again instead of them deciding if he can be president again. Will MAGA trump the constitution?
Section 3 of the 14th amendment was written to keep confederates from ever running for office because they were traitors who engaged in an insurrection. They fought in the Civil War so the south could break off and be their own country. Nobody could ever imagine that it could be applied again until Trump came along. He literally attempted a coup. He had his followers attack the US Capitol.
Other states have not been successful in going to court to keep Trump off of the ballot. Minnesota and Michigan aren’t going to remove Trump from their ballots. The cases in New Hampshire and Florida were dismissed.
The only way democracy can survive is if the Supreme Court rules that an insurrectionist can’t be president but will it? Trump appointed 3 of the justices and they have made good on Republican plans so far. Will the MAGA court rule in favor of a dictatorship?

If the Supreme Court upholds the Colorado decision, other states will follow and Trump won’t be able to appear on more state ballots which means Trump will no longer be a threat to democracy. Right wingers are losing their shit over this. MAGAs are calling for civil war. Fox News had a melt down and said the Colorado Secretary of State shouldn’t be the secretary of anything. Trump is freaking out and ranting on social media, as usual.
Trump tried to reassure MAGAs in Iowa that he’s not that bad. At a MAGA rally he told the crowd that he had never read Mein Kampf so don’t worry. Just because he keeps saying stuff like “they are destroying the blood of our country” doesn’t mean he has read read Mein Kampf. “They are destroying the blood of our country” is straight out of Mein Kampf. If Trump hasn’t read Mein Kampf it’s because he doesn’t read at all and he picked up the Hitler talking points from Nazi sycophants who keep telling him what to say. Or maybe he’s lying and really has read Mein Kampf. His first wife said he kept a copy of it on his bed stand.
