Running Scared
The only two Republicans on the Select Committee, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, are carrying the fight for democracy all alone inside their party. All of the other Republicans are either complicit in their silence, or worse, guilty of being part of the plot to overthrow the government. You can’t dispute what Trump did, as laid out by the Select Committee in eight separate hearings. They organized the hearings in such a way that they achieved two things — communicating with the public a compelling, well thought out, and impactful story of what happened, and organizing the information so that it could be handed over to DOJ for them to use as a framework for its own investigation. They were really careful to call witnesses that would keep the Republicans from using any of them to fit their narrative that the investigation is a Democratic witch hunt and thus make a spectacle out of the probe. All of the witnesses, other than the victims of the crimes, have been Republicans or people who worked for the administration. More than 100 of the subpoenas that were issued went to lawmakers, internet and communications companies, and White House officials.
Trump has spent $2.2 million out of his “Make America Great Again” and “Save America” PACs to pay 6 legal firms to represent witnesses who have been subpoenaed. They aren’t representing their clients’ best interests, but Trump’s interests, as they turn over what they learn to him. He reads the transcripts of their depositions and uses that against witnesses (“Remember he reads the transcripts.”)

Who else is he covering the costs of legal representation for? Rudy Giuliani got a subpoena. Jim Jordan got one, too but he sent the committee a letter outlining the many reasons why he doesn’t have to respond. Mark Meadows, John Eastman, Mo Brooks, Stephen Miller, Scott Perry, Andy Biggs, and Kimberly Guilfoyle, too. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy got one but he is refusing to comply.
Remember that Kevin McCarthy tapped Jim Jordan to be on the bipartisan commission that Nancy Pelosi wanted to create but she wouldn’t let him be on it because he was in on the coup. So McCarthy refused to work with her. She put the select committee together instead. Two Republicans defected from the GOP to be on the committee and the rest is history.

Josh Hawley tried to take ownership of what the committee did to him by showing him running from the mob by turning it into a win for himself. He spoke at a conservative conference in Tampa over the weekend and said things like, “I do not regret it! I am not backing down! I’m not gonna apologize! I’m not gonna cower! I’m not gonna run from you! I’m not gonna bend the knee!”
The Select Committee has fixed it so that if Josh Hawley runs for president people will think of him running scared and not running for office every time he says he’s running.
Liz Cheney could keep it all going by running for president herself so she can run against Trump in the primary and pummel him with stuff she learned by serving on the committee.
The Secret Service has retained counsel. The disappearance of texts on January 5 and 6 are now under criminal investigation. 24 Secret Service agents were on duty at the time. The driver for Trump hired a criminal defense attorney.
Steve Bannon was found guilty on both charges. He’ll be going to jail but it’s not known yet for how long. He will be sentenced on October 21. He could go to jail for 30 days or as long as 2 years. Kevin McCarthy, Rudy Giuliani, and Jim Jordan might want to think again about blowing off their subpoenas.
The QAnon county clerk in Colorado, Tina Peters, has been arrested for leaving the state after being indicted on 10 felony counts for tampering with the 2020 election.
59 year old white MAGA mom, Dawn Lee Bancroft, the idiot who attacked the Capitol and recorded herself saying she wanted to shoot Nancy Pelosi in “the friggin’ brain” got 69 days in jail, three years’ probation, 100 hours of community service and a $500 fine. It didn’t hurt her campaign for a local committee race in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, though. She won the GOP primary. She did however lose her gym business and her kids are getting harassed for having an asshole for a mom. Now she’s upset.
The MAGA man who murdered his wife in Colorado and then voted for Trump twice by voting for his dead wife, got no jail time, just 1 year probation. Despite the Republicans’ ridiculous claims of voter and election fraud, it’s always their guys who get busted.
Polio, which had been eradicated in the US, has made a come back in New York. Gee, how could that happen? Too many idiots have rejected science, education, and common sense.
The World Health Organization has announced that we have another global emergency: Monkey Pox. It’s like Small Pox, only grosser — big giant bubbles erupt all over the skin. A perfect accessory for the red hat and missing teeth.
Joe Biden tested positive for covid but he’s fine because he’s the president and got covid under control after the former president killed 400,000. 21 states have unemployment rates that are at or below 3%. That’s the first time in history that that has ever happened. The guy stopped the killing and put people back to work but his approval rating stinks. Americans are like, ya whatever, what have you done for ME lately?
