The last day for the prosecution focused on the damage done to our reputation around the world, the dangers of what is sure to happen if Trump is not convicted, how personal lives have changed in negative ways as a result of the attack to not just members of Congress but to their staffs, the police and all of the people who work in the Capitol serving food and keeping the building clean and maintained, how Trump has been inciting violence among his followers since 2015 and how the attack on the Capitol was the logical conclusion to that.
House managers played clips from MAGA rallies over the years where Trump encouraged his followers to be violent against protesters in the audience and how he defended and praised violence done on his behalf. They also showed clips of domestic terrorist groups in action sparked by Trump’s rhetoric.
Jamie Raskin gave a masterclass (he’s a constitutional law professor) on how impeachment was written into the Constitution for such a time as this. He reminded everyone that what they are doing is constitutional. He asked Trump’s legal team a list of questions to answer, for the record, since Trump refused their invitation to testify. He quoted Voltaire, “Anyone who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities,” talked about Thomas Paine and ended with, “Good luck with your deliberations.”
Boom.
Lindsey Graham and John Cornyn laughed out loud at the end of Jamie Raskin’s presentation like a couple of shitty kids in middle school math class.
Lindsey Graham blamed the police for letting things get out of control.
15 shitty Republicans blew off listening to the evidence on day 3. In the real world if you don’t show up for jury duty you could go to jail.
Republicans are spitting on the Constitution.
The House managers didn’t just present a case for conviction, they made a case for criminal prosecution, created a record of the insurrection for history, and painted a picture of a dangerous, mentally ill sadist. They pointed to his state of mind as being responsible for the insurrection.
Senator Rick Scott from the shitty state, Flori-duh, says the trial is a “complete waste of time.”
Nancy Mace, from the shitty state South Carolina which is shitty because they keep electing Lindsey Graham, blames Democrats for playing on their emotions to make their case. She accused Democrats of threatening to kill her.
Shitty Josh Hawley who supposedly represents Missouri but lives in Virginia called the trial “a total kangaroo court.”
Jurors Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Lindsey Graham met with Trump’s legal team last night. Um, WHAT? Public defenders can’t even go to the bathroom with jurors in it. According to the American Bar Association, “a lawyer shall not communicate ex parte with a judge, juror, prospective juror or other official during the proceeding unless authorized to do so by law or court order” but these guys did in broad day light, spitting in Thomas Paine’s eye.
When asked about the legality of jurors meeting with him, Trump’s lawyer, David Schoen spitted out, “I think that’s the practice of impeachment. There’s nothing about this thing that has any semblance of due process whatsoever.”
So fuck it, we’ll wing, we’ll spit ball it, we’ll yammer on for a couple of hours and the Republicans will vote to acquit.
Meanwhile over at Fox News, Trump is a victim and Democrats are bad.
In other news — as suspected, all of the doctors at Walter Reed, his chief of staff, press Secretary and Trump himself lied to the country about how sick Trump was with covid. He was close to being put on a ventilator.
The new district attorney in Fulton County, Georgia, Fani Willis, is investigating Trump’s call to Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger to get him to flip the election for him. She said the case is a high priority and will be about more than the one recorded phone call. It goes to the grand jury next month. If convicted, Trump’s going to jail. They’ll spit on him in there.

Good news! President Biden announced that there is enough vaccine secured for all Americans. Everybody should be covered by the end of summer. There is an end in sight! He wasn’t kidding when he said he wasn’t interested in watching the trial because he had work to do. He’s been busy. He says he won’t be calling any of the senators to encourage them to vote a certain way even though he has long standing personal relationships with many of them. Good move. He doesn’t need to call them. They know. They’re spitting in their own eye.
Trump’s team is going to put up their defense today. They’ve got 16 hours but they expect they’ll only need 3 hours because why prepare when you already know the outcome.
