On Trump’s 1,000th day in office, he told the press that the Kurds are worse than ISIS — “They’re not angels.” He said his US strategy at the Syrian border was brilliant and that the Kurds are not our problem. Then he said “They’ve got a lot of sand over there…. there’s a lot of sand they can play with……. Russia used to be called the Soviet Union. But they’re not anymore. Because they spent so much money in Afghanistan they had to downsize. A very big downsize…….The Kurds actually are pulling back substantially from Turkey, and Syria’s pulling in. Syria probably will have a partner of Russia. Whoever they may have, I wish ’em all a lot of luck.”
Then he posted a letter he sent to Erdogan 11 days ago on White House letterhead. It read:
Dear Mr. President:
Let’s work out a good deal! You don’t want to be responsible for slaughtering thousands of people, and I don’t want to be responsible for destroying the Turkish economy — and I will. I’ve already given you a little sample with respect to Pastor Brunson.
I have worked hard to solve some of your problems. Don’t let the world down. You can make a great deal. General Mazloum is willing to negotiate with you, and he is willing to make concessions that they would never have made in the past. I am confidentially enclosing a copy of his letter to me, just received.
History will look upon you favorably if you get this done the right and humane way. It will look upon you forever as the devil if good things don’t happen. Don’t be a tough guy. Don’t be a fool!
I will call you later.
It was obvious that he wrote it himself and that it didn’t go through the usual editing process in the White House. Erdogan said he tossed it in the trash.
The House overwhelmingly approved (354 to 60) a resolution condemning Trump’s decision to withdraw US troops from northern Syria. That freaked Trump out because 129 Republicans supported it. He’s losing Republicans.
The parents of Harry Dunn, the teenager who was killed in a car crash in the UK caused by the wife of a US diplomat who escaped justice by running back to the US, came to the White House to meet with Trump only to find that they had been set up to shoot a scene for his reality TV show. He told them that the diplomat’s wife was in the next room and she wanted to meet them. Surprise! Roll camera! They were horrified.
Standing next to the president of Italy, Trump rambled on about how the US and Italy are bound together by a shared heritage dating back thousands of years to Ancient Rome and Christopher Columbus. Many people don’t like Columbus Day but I do.
We bombed our own facility in Syria because there was no exit plan. The US destroyed it after evacuating so Russia or Turkey couldn’t use it. You know the operation isn’t going well when you have to retreat so fast that you need to bomb your own ammo depot so it won’t fall into the hands of your NATO ally.
The federal investigation into Rudy Giuliani includes a counterintelligence probe. He could be working for a foreign government.
Nancy Pelosi met with Trump and other members of Congress and top officials in the White House about Turkey and Syria. They had to endure what she called a “meltdown.” Trump threw a fit and called her a “third-rate politician” and that communists could be involved and that the Democrats like it. Nancy leapt to her feet, pointed right at Trump and said, “I wish you were a politician Mr. President, then you would know the art of the possible.” She went on — “All roads with you lead to Putin.” A White House photographer captured the moment and idiot Trump posted it on Twitter. It went viral. This is the image that depicts the end of the Trump presidency. One for the history books — Nancy stood up. All of the old white men sitting around the table hung their heads in shame.
Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer and Congressman Steny Hoyer walked out of the meeting.
Nancy took the iconic photo of herself standing up to Trump and made it her Twitter profile banner.
Moscow Mitch can see the Trump writing on the Trump wall. He gave a presentation at a GOP lunch on the logistics of the impeachment process, how a hypothetical trial would work, and told everybody to be ready for an impeachment trial by Thanksgiving that could meet 6 days a week.
Congressman Elijah Cummings, chair of the House Oversight Committee investigating Trump, died this morning. He represented Baltimore. He was a patriot, a loyal civil servant, and a really good man. Elijah stood up to Trump.
“When we’re dancing with the angels, the question will be asked, in 2019, what did we do to make sure we kept our democracy intact?” — Rep. Elijah Cummings
