Stop It

Yesterday was the Fourth of July. Half of the nation was too stunned and depressed to care. A holiday that is supposed to commemorate the severing of the relationship between the colonies and a tyrannical king was ruined by the Supreme Court days earlier when it ruled that the 3 branches of government were no longer equal and that presidents are kings. The other half of the country has no idea what’s in the Declaration of Independence, what the three branches of government are, or that the Fourth Estate is the free press and not Kim Kardashian’s fourth mansion. All they know is that it’s ‘Merika’s birthday — another day to get shit faced drunk and blow off a few fingers by lighting illegal fireworks while the pets and vets in the neighborhood cower in fear.

Founding Fathers fun fact: Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on the same day, July 4, 1826, 50 years to the day after the Declaration of Independence was read for the first time. They were old men then and were depressed by how ignorant the younger generation had become. The kids knew very little of the founding fathers’ vision, sacrifices and accomplishments. They took America for granted just like the yahoos and firecrackers do now. One generation. That’s all it took to forget. America is meant to be protected and cared for by every generation. Thomas Jefferson, the author of the Declaration of Independence, gave Americans way too much credit for being intelligent and sophisticated enough to be active participants in their government. He was idealistic and thought America would be the first country where all of its citizens would be well educated, engaged in civics, and responsible for the tending and defending of the Republic. He thought everybody would be excited about democracy and that everybody would care. Dreamer. He wasn’t able to see the worst in people so he didn’t prepare.

The Supreme Court has ruined the last 3 summers for everybody (reversing Roe v Wade in 2022, reversing Affirmative Action at colleges and legalized discrimination of LGBTQs in 2023, and criminalizing homelessness, overturning Chevron deference, and presidential immunity in 2024). This summer it made the executive branch more powerful than the other two branches of government. They made the president all powerful and accountable to no one, just like the Supreme Court.

Instead of being freaked about what the Supreme Court just did by checking off another item on the Project 2025 to do list, the media is freaking out over Biden’s age. They’re focused on whether or not Biden should drop out of the presidential race even thought he worked miracle after miracle to save our ass, because he’s old. None of them has asked why Biden’s opponent, who is only 3 years younger and is a convicted felon, hasn’t dropped out.

The Democrats, Fourth Estate, and Fifth Estate (bloggers, social media influencers, and nontraditional media) are all piling on Biden, who literally saved the country after Trump trashed it, pressuring him to give it up because he’s old and bombed one debate.

Here we go with the liberal purity tests. STOP IT.

Democrats have been so tight and united around one common enemy for 8 years (which in and of itself is a miracle because Democrats are notorious for eating their own — Al Franken, hello?) Stop with the BS. This is not a game. Our very democracy is at stake. This is life and death for some people so get it together, Dems. Focus! The Republicans must be crushed for good.

Democrats: Learn from your own history of turning on your own to prove how exemplary you are. Politics is mean and dirty. You’re going to have to sacrifice your morality manicure to rip a few Republicans’ faces off in the swamplands of Washington DC. No hand wipes or hand sanitizer until the last Republican is lying face down in the mud. You can wash off in the Capitol and White House later.
