Temporary or Permanent?
A federal judge has put a temporary ban on Texas’s abortion ban! Victory for Merrick Garland, the constitution and half the country! Now make it permanent.
Today is the day that insurrection kingpins, Dan Scavino, Steve Bannon, Mark Meadows and Kash Patel are supposed to comply with the Select Committee’s subpoenas and they all plan to blow them off because Trump told them to. Trump’s sleaze bag personal injury attorneys Justin Clark (Trump campaign lawyer) and Pat Philbin (Trump’s deputy White House counsel) have instructed the kingpin lawyers not to comply. Trump’s strategy is to punt this all the way to the Supreme Court where he can call in 3 favors from the 3 justices he gave jobs to to save his ass (which is all he cares about,) but also so Republicans can lay the ground for future kings and tyrants to overthrow America, (which is all they care about.)
Mitch McConnell has realized that it’s in his best interest to let the Democrats raise the debt ceiling but ONLY until December. The country has voted to raise the debt ceiling more than 100 times. Ronald Reagan did it 18 times. Trump, 3 times. Under Trump, Republicans voted to add $7.8 trillion to the national debt on top of the $21 trillion existing debt. Mitch McConnell has voted to raise the debt limit 32 times in his career, always to benefit the Republican agenda. Republicans ran this debt up and they’re not only blaming the Dems for it, they’re playing games with defaulting on their own spending.
Rip Van Wrinkle Chuck Grassley made a “you people” remark when he told Lucy Koh, a Korean American judicial nominee during her confirmation hearing that her Korean background reminds him of his daughter in law telling him that Koreans have “a hard work ethic” and “can make a lot out of nothing.” Awkward. “I congratulate you and your people.” Awkward. Awkward. He’s running for re-election and he’s 88. Awkward.
Speaking of awkward Iowa US senators saying awkward things, Joni Ernst, who is always self conscious, wrong and awkward, stepped up to the podium at a press conference to meekly try and change the media’s daily narrative by declaring, “The reality is all states are border states.” Look over there! Illegal immigrants! Get your guns! Lock up your women! Wave those flags! Don those hats! The immigrants are coming and they’re headed straight for your jobs! Obvious, desperate and awkward, and only temporary. They won’t be screaming, “Look over there!” when they have power.
Latest count on prosecutions of insurrectionists: 630 federal defendants so far, 95 guilty pleas, and 2 defendants who kicked the MAGA puke bucket and died.
There were 2 high school shootings in Texas within a few days of each other but they barely made the news, even as state legislators work on making state guns laws even looser. Yesterday’s shooting was done by a black student and the media has pretty much ignored the story, even though he was black! They’ve been too busy rehashing nothing stories about Democrats being in disarray and the truth is, school shootings don’t drive ratings anymore. They’re just not that interesting.
School shootings, mass shootings, domestic violence shootings, drive by shootings, kids shooting each other with guns they find lying around the house, it’s all old news before it even breaks. The stories all sound the same and nothing ever changes.
A mom in Wisconsin teaches her teenage son to drive when another driver gets pissed off and shoots her. She dies. Whatever. Happens every day.
A man in Connecticut said he was “testing” 2 guns he had just bought when he fired them into a busy park with kids playing softball. Whatever. Happens every day.
A grandpa in Washington loses it and blows his daughter away, right in front of her 1 year old son, because she didn’t install a baby gate right. He shot her 6 times (twice in the head.) Whatever. Happens every day.
A high school kid in Texas texts his mom “I’m scared” during a lockdown while a shooter walks the halls outside of his classroom. Another kid films students being led out of her high school by heavily armed law enforcement who are evacuating the school. Whatever. Happens every day.
At long last, covid numbers are going down. Mandates work. Vaccines work. Masks work. Doesn’t matter to MAGA parents — they’re still out there demanding their rights not to protect themselves, their families or their communities.
There is a new breakthrough vaccine for malaria, a disease that kills a half a million people a year, 260,000 of which are children, is now available in the Sub-Sahara. It. How many parents in Africa will refuse it? None.
Only in American do parents kill their own kids by exposing them to a deadly disease, shooting them, or letting other people shoot them.
Will killing our own kids be a temporary thing or will the chances of our kids not making it to adulthood be a permanent thing like it is in third world countries?
