The Cruelty is the Point

Mike Pence, Lindsey Graham and a few other Republicans went to a detention center in Texas for a photo op so they could prove that the press and Democrats are lying when they say that detained brown people are being treated inhumanely. They reported that the conditions were great and that the reason why there are so many of them is because they keep coming and coming and coming and coming. We’re overflowing because they just keep coming, not because we won’t let them out.
The stench was horrendous. Guards wore masks. The repugs stayed long enough to stare at the men as if they were a sewer rat exhibit at the zoo. Unshowered, hungry, exhausted, desperate men crammed in a makeshift cage WITHIN a detention center……why the cage?
What’s the point?
Pence didn’t speak to any of them or get too close. Lindsey Graham looked bored.
Mike Pence said he was deeply moved to see the care that Customs and Border Protection personnel are providing. He said that many of the men in cages have been arrested multiple times, multiple times, multiple times, MULTIPLE TIMES. There are so many because they are overwhelming the system…..hence the crisis. They keep coming, they keep coming, they keep coming. THEY KEEP COMING! He took to Twitter soon after his “visit” and tweeted like Trump: CNN is so dishonest. Today we took reporters to a detention facility on the border for families and children and all told us they were being treated well and that these men were in a temporary holding area because Democrats in Congress have refused to fund additional bed space.
The good Christian Republicans got the hell out of there as fast as they could.
Before the Republicans made their appearance, Senator Thom Tillis posted a picture of empty first class seats to bash the Democrats for not going. Um, they’ve already been. Senator Jeff Merkley has been going down to the border for a year, with the media. Senators Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren have been. New House members, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley have been. When they showed emotion at a press conference and committee hearing as they talked about what they saw, they were bashed by the Republicans and MAGAs for being cry babies.
Border Patrol agents in Texas made a man from Honduras hold a sign that read, “I like men” to humiliate him.
Guards at the Yuma Arizona detention center for children have been sexually assaulting young prisoners for months and the Trump Administration has known about it. It’s on government record. The defense? Not all CBP employees do it, they’re stressed out, and we need more money.
The government has lost track of migrant children.
A 52 year old man from Nicaragua died in Border Patrol custody near Tucson, Arizona. That makes him the 9th person to die while in Border Patrol custody this fiscal year.
The Homestead concentration camp for children in Florida can only hold 1,200 kids safely during a hurricane. There are 1,700 kids there now.
Trump claimed that the border patrol and ICE agents “love those people coming across the border. They love them. And I’ve seen it.”
Here’s what the president of the United States tweeted this morning about sitting members of Congress: So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!
The president of the National Border Patrol Council says that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is trying to dehumanize them.
Of every 100 immigration detainees, 74 are held in private facilities. Somebody is getting really rich off of this.
“Both sides did not do this. Both sides do not support this. This is happening because the President has decided to inflict pain and instill fear on a systematic basis.” — Senator Brian Schatz
Societies are judged by how they treat their most vulnerable. America takes babies away from breastfeeding mothers and puts them in prisons with guards who know nothing about children, who lose track of them in the “foster care” system, who molest and neglect older children in their care. It gives guns to unstable lunatics who think they need to arm themselves after another child goes into another school and guns down their classmates in seconds. It protects wealthy white pedophiles from serving time in prison so they can victimize other children and if caught, get a slight slap on the wrist for having sex with “prostitutes.” It encourages discrimination and violence against a tiny portion of the population who already have it bad enough, the transgender community. It blames the homeless for choosing to be homeless and then doesn’t give them any place to live. It looks the other way when the police hunt down black children and kill them. It terrorizes immigrant communities with constant threats of raids and deportations.
ICE, concentration camps for kids, Islamaphobia, black lives don’t matter — the cruelty is the point.
