The End of Roe, One Year Later
It’s been one year since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade. White Christian nationalists and women haters are the only ones celebrating today.
Women in 20 states now live under Christian nationalist rule. If a woman becomes pregnant unintentionally, or if she suffers an unexpected life-threatening crisis as a result of an intended pregnancy, she will be forced to break the law to terminate the pregnancy.
Women in 22 states are much more fortunate. Their states went to work right away to strengthen abortion rights after they saw draconian laws go into effect in red states as soon as SCOTUS stripped rights away from half of the population.
The antiabortion movement had waited for 50 years for a president to tip the court in their favor. Trump’s Supreme Court’s first objective was to reverse Roe v Wade. The second objective was to give the country away to billionaires.
Pro-lifers got the forced birth they wanted out of this. None of them plan on doing anything to help the babies born to women and girls who don’t want them or can’t afford them. No, these women and girls should be PUNISHED for HAVING SEX! Unwanted babies are not their problem. Sluts.
Other consequences of taking abortion rights away from women and girls?
· Government sanctioned torture
· Women and girls have suffering and bleeding to death while health care providers sit by unwilling to do anything for fear of going to jail
· Half the country are no longer full citizens
· Women are being forced to give birth against their will
· A 10 year old can be expected to give birth to a baby but she can’t adopt one
· Rape is a crime. Incest is a crime. Republicans have made it a crime to terminate a pregnancy as a result of a crime.
All of the anti-abortion laws that were written before and after Roe was overturned were written by white Republican men who have never given birth. Not only that, but 187 Republicans in the House voted against birth control. That’s 96% of Republicans, even the few who can actually give birth. Marcia Blackburn, US Senator from Tennessee who was obsessed with the whole gas stoves thing, wants to put women in jail for having an abortion. Nikki Haley, the token vagina running for president right now who was once a loyal member of the Trump administration, signed an abortion ban with no exceptions for rape or incest that threatened doctors with jail time when she was governor of South Carolina.
The 3 justices who made the end of Roe v Wade possible were appointed by a president who recently lost a civil suit for sexual assault and is about to stand trial for espionage. Justice Samuel Alito, who waited patiently for 16 years so he could overturn Roe, wrote the opinion a year ago (and most likely leaked it) on the Dobbs decision which reversed Roe. He was just outed for taking bribes from billionaires just like Clarence Thomas was (fun facts about Clarence Thomas — he never said a word on the bench for 3 decades until the 3 MAGA justices came on board, his wife was part of the insurrection, and he got an extension on his financial disclosure report so he can keep the billionaires’ butts he kissed a secret for longer). Notre Dame’s Religious Liberty Initiative, the group that courted the Dobbs case all the way up to the Supreme Court, flew Alito and his wife to Rome for a luxury vacation that included lodging in a palace this past July. He made a speech while he was there and mocked the critics of the government mandating how many children a woman will have. He didn’t report the trip on his financial disclosure form. He didn’t report the luxury fishing trip he accepted from Paul Singer in 2008, soon after he was appointed, either. Singer flew Alito to Alaska on a private jet and then took him fishing on his private boat where he served martinis made with glacier ice. He’s a hedge fund billionaire who has repeatedly asked the Supreme Court to rule in his favor in high stakes business disputes. Alito never recused himself from any of those cases.
Of the 115 Supreme Court justices in US history, all but six have been white men. That’s the problem.
