The Great Regression
The same number of people who still support Trump are the same amount of people who are celebrating the overturning of Roe v Wade. It’s minority rule. The Supreme Court is not in line whatsoever with where the nation is at as a whole. This decision was imposed on 75% of the country by a very small number of religious zealots who have been hyper focused on doing this for decades. The justices responsible for this are all Catholic. Seven out of the nine justices are Catholic. The number of Catholics in the country are less than the number of die hard Trump supporters. As constitutional “originalists,” the five justices who did this to us based their decision on an era when the Constitution was written and amended, and made no allowances for how much the country and world have changed since then. We are being forced into the root cellars of the colonizers of the 1700s when white men were in complete control, women were livestock, and there was no such thing as abortion (abortion is nothing new. Women just died from giving themselves abortions in the 1700s.)
The social make up of America today had no bearing on their decision. Advancements in law, gender and racial equality, technology, science and weaponry were completely disregarded in favor of America as it was and should be, according to white Christian males who are behind all of this. They’re deathly afraid of losing their grip on power so what better way to put everybody in their place but by forcing them back to the good old days when they ruled it all — government, home, business, religion, everything. They have taken conservatism to the extreme — before indoor plumbing, electricity, and bullets, when white men had complete control and owned slaves and women. The 5 justices who did this to us are originalists. They interpret the Constitution literally, just like they do the Bible. They’re stuck back in time and they’re using their power to force the entire country to meet them there.
The Roe decision is rooted in an antiquated, sexist belief that women are to be only wives and mothers. There wasn’t a single woman’s voice in the court’s opinions, neither for nor against. Amy Coney Barrett didn’t say anything on why she voted for forced pregnancy sanctioned by the state, and Sotomayor and Kagan spoke as one voice with Breyer. There is nothing in this decision about gender equality. How 18th century of them.
This would have never happened without Trump’s 3 justices. That’s why so many Republicans put up with him. This was the moment they had been waiting for. Barrett, Gorsuch and Kavanaugh aren’t just conservative. They’re theocrats. They’re political operatives who can act with impunity because they are all powerful. Their vision? Forced obedience to a radical theocracy.
The highest court was packed by a criminal who was impeached twice and tried to overthrow the government so he could remain in power for life. The Roe v Wade decision was announced during congressional hearings on how the coup happened. The reversal of Roe v Wade is part of that coup.
Clarence Thomas’ opinion where he flat out said they were coming for gay rights and birth control next was a message for the federal courts where his clerks and buddies reside. There are lots of them because that’s all the Republicans in the Senate did for years — appointed extremely conservative judges to federal courts instead of passing legislation to advance the country. He signaled to them that he wants them to perfect cases on taking away gay rights and birth control in lower courts so they’re easy to uphold once they get to him. Does Clarence Thomas not know that he’s Black? Inter-racial marriage wasn’t legal until a few years before Roe v Wade. Virginia should outlaw inter-racial marriage now and see where that ends up. In response to the ruling, Barack Obama tweeted: Today, the Supreme Court not only reversed nearly 50 years of precedent, it relegated the most intensely personal decision someone can make to the whims of politicians and ideologues — attacking the essential freedoms of millions of Americans.
In response to Barack Obama’s tweet, Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn tweeted: Now do Plessy vs Ferguson/Brown vs Board of Education.
A sitting US senator called for a return of segregation in response to something the first Black president said.
Roe is just a start. They’re coming for everybody, except white, straight, Christian men.
5 justices completely disregarded settlement on one issue and tossed a constitutional right out for the first time in American history. By doing so they have told the country that from now on, radical right Republicans are in charge.
