The Real Story
After months of the whites only Republican Party blocking debate on the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act it finally happened. Senators debated all day yesterday and will keep on debating today. To get around the game that Sinema and Manchin have been playing in which they are hypocritically upholding the sanctity of the filibuster, even though they’ve agreed to suspend the rules to pass things that don’t protect the rights of Black, brown, young and poor people, the Dems are using the same trick that they used back when the Republicans blocked debating Obamacare by forcing them to debate after inserting the voting rights bills into another bill about NASA. All these two bills do is provide federal oversight over red states making laws to keep Democrats from voting. Republicans are against these bills because if more people voted, Republicans would lose. After the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act after a Black man was elected president, the Republicans have been working over time to keep everybody who isn’t white, “conservative” and has a hefty net worth from voting.
Chuck Grassley asked, “Democrats accuse Republicans of wanting to keep people from voting. Why would we want to keep people from voting?” Dumb question. You guys don’t want everybody to vote because if they did, you’d lose. There just aren’t enough white, “conservative” votes with hefty net worths if the whole country had a voice. That’s the real story.
The fact that there would be any debate over whether or not voting rights should be protected is reprehensible in and of itself.
The Voting Rights Act has been reauthorized 5 times since it passed in 1965. It’s had bipartisan support and three Republican presidents signed off on it — Nixon, Reagan and Bush II.
The Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act have already passed the House. The House represents real America far better than the Senate does. The 117th Congress is the most diverse in history, thanks to Democrats. Even though there is a 50/50 split in the Senate between Democrats and Republicans, the Republican side is comprised of 40 white men, 9 white women, and 1 token Black man. They don’t want to protect voting rights. The Republican side of the Senate is 98% white and they want to keep it that way. That’s the real story.
The US Senate bears a great deal of responsibility for America’s demise. It has had the power to preserve democracy and do the right thing many times, but it has not. Not only has it become an un-Democratic institution by refusing to govern and legislate, but it voted to acquit Trump TWICE. Imagine if they had voted to remove him from power the first time. Trump wouldn’t have had the chance to stage a coup to stay in power forever.
147 Republicans voted to overturn the presidential election. The 8 senators were Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Cindy Hyde-Smith, John Kennedy, Cynthia Lummis, Roger Marshall, Rick Scott, and Tommy Tuberville. Remember their names. They’re the worst of the worst (besides Mitch the Bitch McConnell — he’s the absolute worst.)
The Select Committee has subpoenaed 4 of Trump’s dingbat attorneys who were all over the place pushing the Big Lie, filing frivolous lawsuits, and recruiting people to sign their names to fraudulent documents. They are Rudy Giuliani, Jenna Ellis, Sidney Powell, and Boris Epshteyn. Eric Trump and Kimberly Guilfoyle’s phone records have also been subpoenaed. The Select Committee wants to talk to Texas AG Ken Paxton, too. He was at the Stop the Steal rally but he is refusing to release records regarding his participation to the Travis County DA, violating the open records law. It’s his job to enforce the law but he won’t enforce it on himself. He’s dealing with other legal suits but just like so many Republicans in office today, he’s confident that that won’t hurt his chances for re-election. People will still vote for him.

New Mexico and Pennsylvania have joined the list of states who forged electoral certifications.
President Biden has added 6.2 million new jobs, something no other president has ever done in his first year. The media minimizes that to instead “report” on his failures and low approval rating. Every day.
The mainstream media is going out of its way to prove it’s not the “liberal media” by focusing on controversies, scandals, and polls, not successes. They’re more concerned with racking up clicks and likes to keep up with the drama of the Trump days and proving that they’re not biased than they are about reporting good news or Republican corruption. Biden has made history several times but you wouldn’t know it if you only read the Washington Post. Biden isn’t failing. He isn’t bombing. He isn’t weak. He isn’t ineffective. The media helps Republicans by wanting Biden to fail because that gets clicks.
How different would things be if the media had called Trump incompetent instead of treating him like a normal president and if they didn’t treat Republican corruption, genocide and lies as “both sides.”
Republicans destroying democracy is the real story but you wouldn’t know that if you only listened to the “liberal media.”
