They’re Not Done
Today is the 2 year anniversary of Trump’s insurrection and many members of Congress who helped carry it out are united in their next endeavor — destroying the government from within by taking all power away from the House of Representatives (half of Congress) by keeping a Speaker from being elected. The 118th Congress cannot be activated until they have a Speaker. Kevin McCarthy has lost 11 votes in 3 days and refuses to withdraw. Today is day 4.
Yesterday Matt Gaetz nominated Donald Trump to be Speaker and was the only one to vote for him. He was sitting next to Marjorie Taylor Greene when he did it. After he sat down, she flirted with him and elbowed him like a mean girl in high school. She’s uglier when she smiles. They’re up to something. Today could be a really bad day. Trump hates to lose. He got his cult to violently try and overthrow the government on his behalf 2 years ago because he couldn’t accept losing to Joe Biden. Now that he’s been nominated for Speaker he’s not going to tolerate losing to the biggest loser of all, Kevin McCarthy.
Last year the only Republican who participated in the somber observance of the one year anniversary of the insurrection was Liz Cheney. The rest refused to attend (Adam Kinzinger couldn’t make it or he would have been there). 147 Republicans voted to overturn the election on that fateful day in 2021, in the very place where domestic terrorists tried to stop the count. They’re not done yet. The insurrection is not over. Most of the insurrectionists were re-elected and at least 16 of them have stopped the government from functioning by voting against McCarthy. It’s been really funny watching karma thump McCarthy over and over but today is making people nervous. The first thing the Republicans did on January 3 was take down the metal detectors and thin down security. If MAGAs want to commemorate the 2 year anniversary of Trump’s insurrection with another one, there aren’t as many cops to protect them.
Two hours before Matt Gaetz nominated Trump, Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted: Good things are coming. Hold a little longer.
On January 5, 2021, Marjorie Taylor Greene made a video of herself standing in front of the Capitol saying that Trump won the election and tomorrow they’re going to do something about it. She wanted a pardon after only being in Congress for 3 days.
The FBI has increased its reward for the name of the person who put pipe bombs in front of the headquarters at both the Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee the night before the insurrection. They still haven’t caught the person, even though they have surveillance camera footage of them. It looks like a woman. Many think it’s Marjorie Taylor Greene but she’s too buff. This person has a much slighter build, like Lauren Boebert.
Ali Alexander, one of the producers of the Stop the Steal rally on January 6 who went into hiding and then testified before the Select Committee after he resurfaced, is threatening to release evidence that Marjorie Taylor Greene “committed a crime” that will get her expelled from Congress. “I will not suffer this harlot. I will not be taught vows and loyalty, commitment from a whore!…….In the coming days I am going to reveal that Marjorie Taylor Greene committed a crime. The House Ethics Committee will expel Marjorie Taylor Greene when this evidence comes to light. Everyone will hear about your drunken nights!”
There are three reasons why Ali’s threat won’t amount to much, even if he’s really got something on her. First, the House can’t do anything because it doesn’t have a Speaker. Second, if they ever manage to elect a Speaker, they want to eliminate the Ethics Committee. Third, Marjorie Taylor Greene is one of the insurrectionists so whatever she did will be OK with the rest of them. They’ve been OK with everything else so far.
Republicans insist that they’re not dysfunctional. “Democracy is messy” they say. When they say it, it means democracy is a mess. When Democrats say it, it means democracy is messy and imperfect, and that’s not a bad thing, it’s just a frustrating thing. The Republicans are trying to act like their bullshit is a good thing. Democracy in action! No, it’s democracy and NO ACTION.
The Freedom Caucus wants to weaken the speakership, whoever it is, and embolden the insurgency. Take as much power away from the Speaker as possible so they can be more powerful.
Anti-government Republican fun facts: Hating on the government started with the Republicans’ hero, Ronald Reagan — “Government is the problem.” The haters have grown in numbers and strength, to the point that they’re trying to take the government down. The House Freedom Caucus has taken the government to the mat and is sitting on its head. The Freedom Caucus started in 2015. Many of the founding members will be back in the House chambers today, committed to committing more chaos. Two of the founding members are no longer in Congress - Mark Meadows moved on to be Trump’s Chief of Staff where he directed the coup from inside the White House and another, Ron DeSantis, is the governor of Florida and is using his power to destroy democracy in Florida. After that he wants to be president.
