This is It
New escalations have erupted in Iran but this time it’s from within by the Iranian people. Iranians are taking a huge risk right now by calling their government out over lying to them about shooting the passenger plane down, killing everybody on board. Trump stands ready to take credit for it. Student protesters are chanting that the US is not their enemy. Their anger is directed at Khamenei. This is it, they say. They’ve had enough of their government.
Trump and Mike Pompeo can’t believe their luck. This is it!!!! Now they can frame themselves as the great liberators of the Iranian people in order to score points with voters who love the idea of kicking Iran’s ass while screwing things up for the Democrats who want Trump removed from office at the same time! How can the Senate vote to remove the great liberator?
Trump tweeted last night IN FARSI: To the brave and suffering Iranian people: I have stood with you since the beginning of my presidency and my government will continue to stand with you. We are following your protests closely. Your courage is inspiring.
He didn’t actually write that. There aren’t any misspelled words, mistakes in punctuation or capital letters. He didn’t write this this morning, either: The government of Iran must allow human rights groups to monitor and report facts from the ground on the ongoing protests by the Iranian people. There can not be another massacre of peaceful protesters, nor an internet shutdown. The world is watching.
This is it! We’re watching you!
He didn’t write this either: To the leaders of Iran — DO NOT KILL YOUR PROTESTERS. Thousands have already been killed or imprisoned by you, and the World is watching. More importantly, the USA is watching. Turn your internet back on and let reporters roam free! Stop the killing of your great Iranian people!
Let your reporters roam free? Iran’s press is real but America’s is fake? Allow human rights groups monitor and report the facts? Trump won’t let human rights groups monitor and report what he’s done to migrants at our border.
“To the brave, long-suffering people of Iran: I’ve stood with you since the beginning of my Presidency, which is why I put in place a ban on you traveling to America.” Sam Stein
Trump’s Muslim ban specifically sanctioned Iran and he threatened to bomb their cultural sites last week. Trump cares as much about the Iranian people as he does Americans or his own kids. He doesn’t give a shit about anybody.
Mike Pompeo is feeling the rapture this fine Sunday morning. He tweeted (and the State Dept promptly retweeted): America hears you. America supports you. America stands with you. May God bless the people of Iran.
A British ambassador to Iran got arrested and detained last night for attending a vigil for the victims of the plane crash. The vigil turned into a protest so now the ambassador is in trouble for violating international law. Hardline militia rallies are at the UK embassy in Iran demanding closure.
Secretary of Defense Mark Esper just went on Face the Nation and said he didn’t see any intelligence about Iran posing an imminent threat to 4 US embassies but he believes Trump.
That’s it? HELP!
All of this is happening right after Trump bragged on TV that he is sending our troops to Saudi Arabia for a fee. The Saudis have already deposited $1 billion in the bank, he said. He has turned our military into a mercenary force and he’s profiting from it.
Profiting from it.
George Stephanopoulos asked Speaker Pelosi this morning if the House will impeach Trump again since he keeps violating the Constitution over and over. She said, “Well, let’s just see what the Senate does.” In other words, if the Senate removes the dangerous criminal sociopath then NO. The House will vote on Tuesday on when to send the articles over to the Senate. This could be it.
We’re in a constitutional crisis. We’re in an existential crisis. Is this the end of the great American experiment? Could this be it? The 3 branches of government are no longer equal, the president is abusing his power, the Republicans are protecting the president, the Senate isn’t functioning and we’re flirting with war with Iran. This is it, one way or the other.
“It’s hard to overstate the challenge the next president will face to rebuild the government, repair the damage to the office of the presidency, mend alliances around the world and bring together a profoundly divided country. It’s a Herculean task, and it starts with massive voter turnout.” — Steven Beschloss
