Recovering Republican who also happens to have been the governor of Florida once before, Charlie Crist, won the Democratic primary for governor for Florida last night and will run against Ron DeSantis to get his seat back. DeSantis doesn’t care because he’s using this opportunity to run for president anyway. That’s why he has been signing all the culture war bills. It’s getting him lots of media attention and introducing him to the most sexist, homophobic, racist, dumbest voters in the country. He’s positioning himself as the foe of the woke left. In his latest TV ad he poses as a fighter pilot going to war with the media. He did it for the MAGAs because they love a good dick fight.
Ron “Maverick” DeSantis is a Harvard educated former Navy JAG lawyer, not a pilot. Like Trump, “he just plays one on TV.” No self-respecting Naval officer would ever do such a thing plus he’s too chubby to pull off the role, even with the aviator shades. He looked like a dick. His “Top Gov” ad plays up his “fighter” stance towards the liberal media. He said, “Florida is the state where ‘woke’ goes to die,” trying to look cool. He said “woke” five times in 19 seconds. Not cool. Dick.
An actual former Navy pilot, Ken Harbaugh, slammed Ron DeSantis over his “pathetic” Top Gun themed ad. “I earned these wings. This is just one more example of a Republican politician appropriating the honor of others because he has none.”
In other parts of the state, Democratic Congresswoman Val Demings won her primary and will run against Marco Rubio for US Senate. Maxwell Alejandro Frost won his primary for Val Demings’ seat. He’s a 25 year old Cuban American and has already fought for stricter gun laws, abortion rights, and voting rights. It’s a very blue district so he’ll probably win in the general. Gen Z is headed for Congress! Rebekah Jones, the COVID scientist who Ron DeSantis fired for exposing him for hiding the true numbers of COVID deaths in Florida (he had her home raided), won her primary and will now face the incumbent, accused child sex-trafficker under federal investigation, Matt Gaetz.
DeSantis has raised more money ($142 million) than any governor in history. Big money wants him as president so they can enjoy the benefits of everything America has to offer without contributing anything in return. He’s received really big checks from 500 donors such as 10 billionaires Kenneth Griffin (who moved his Citadel hedge fund’s headquarters to Miami from Chicago 14 months after making a $5 million donation), Tudor Jones (CEO of Tudor Investment Corp), Wilbur Ross (Trump’s commerce secretary), Phil Ruffin (developer and Trump business partner), Humana, Home Depot, Fidelity National Financial, and AT&T.
DeSantis behaves just like Trump, more like a dictator than a democratically elected governor. He revoked Disney’s special privileges that let them operate as their own city because they opposed him and his “Don’t Say Gay” bill which forbade schools and teachers from talking about anything gay (including excluding children who had gay parents from being honest about their own families), removing all books from shelves that mention homosexuality, outing kids to their parents who are suspected of being gay, discriminating against gay teachers, and alerting parents if LGBTQ kids will be participating in team sports or overnight school trips. Property taxes around Disneyworld will go up 25% since DeSantis revoked their special status because Disney has been paying for fire, police, road maintenance, trash pick up, etc.
A judge intervened after DeSantis vetoed congressional maps that the legislature passed so he could draw his own. He chopped up voting blocks so repugs were guaranteed 20 seats and Democrats would only get 8. He eliminated two Black districts. He gerrymandered a district away that was 46% Black and partitioned them off to 4 white districts so they would be left without any representation, putting a Black congressmember out of a job. He created 4 new white districts (AKA Republican districts). There were a lot of protests, even within the state capital. Black legislators organized a sit in. The speaker shut down Wi-Fi and kicked out the press so they couldn’t report on it.
DeSantis opened a new election crimes unit for a problem that doesn’t exist — voter fraud.
A third senior resident of The Villages retirement community in Florida has admitted to voting twice during the 2020 election. DeSantis’ election crimes unit wasn’t created with the Villages residents in mind. He wants publicity for busting bad guys. 20 murderers and sex offenders who weren’t eligible to vote have been caught (pay no attention to the number 20, just think about murderers and sex offenders VOTING!) They face 5 years in prison. Will the three senior citizens at The Villages go to jail for 5 years too?
DeSantis’ “Stop Woke Act” was written to fight fabricated problems such as prohibiting the teaching of Critical Race Theory which was never taught in schools K-12 to begin with and limiting businesses from doing diversity training and promoting equality in the workplace. He made it illegal to teach and talk about racism in schools and work places in Florida. A judge blocked the employer portion of the law. The education portion has to be settled in court. After teaching for shitty pay then risking their lives to teach during COVID because DeSantis refused to close schools, then being attacked and threatened by MAGA parents for being woke, teachers quit or retired early which put the state in a teacher shortage crisis. They lost 9,000 teachers. DeSantis is solving the problem by calling in the military to indoctrinate kids. Vets with no teaching experience are “teaching” in Florida schools.
21 school board candidates in big counties endorsed by DeSantis won last night.
Kari Lake, the right wing nut job who just won the primary race for governor of Arizona, says DeSantis has BDE (Big Dick Energy), like Trump. “He has the same BDE that we want all of our leaders to have.” Hey Ted Cruz! Do you think Kari Lake might have a penis? Because with today’s Republican party, you never know!
