We’re Not Gonna Fix It

7 are dead in a new mass shooting at Covenant Christian School is Tennessee. 3 of the dead were 9 years old. The shooter was a 28 year old who attended the school 20 years ago and was bullied. The other 3 were in their 60s so there could be some history there. 2 assault rifles and a pistol were used. There have only been 3 female shooters in the past 40 years. This is the fourth.

A mom who was there visiting her sister on vacation, who had just escaped a mass shooting in July and has met with 130 lawmakers so far to beg them to do something about guns interrupted a live broadcast by Fox to call Fox and the Republicans out. School shootings are happening with such frequency that victims are going through more than one, and journalists are having to cover stories with their kids inside the school.

The shooter listed his gender as “him” on LinkedIn even though everybody who knew the shooter knew him as a girl. Republicans want us to care that the shooter was trans. They are gleeful that the shooter is member of a group they hate.

There are virtually no gun laws in Tennessee and that’s the way Republicans want it. They’re way more interested in protecting kids from drag queens than they are from protecting kids from being shot and killed at school. Republican House member from Tennessee Tim Burchett flat out admitted it. “We’re not gonna fix it.”

The member of congress who represents the Covenant Christian School area is newly elected Andy Ogles who is an imposter like George Santos. He lied about everything to get elected. Nobody knows who this guy really is and Speaker Kevin McCarthy wants to ignore all that because he really needs him. After the shooting, Ogles removed a Christmas photo of he and his family from his Facebook page. It’s a picture of all of them in front of the Christmas tree, holding guns.

Tennessee’s US Senator Marsha Blackburn did nothing but offer up beauty tips and platitudes. She has received $1,306,130 from the NRA.

The average number of gun deaths per year in Tennessee is 1,273.

This was the 19th mass shooting for this year.

Where are the members of Congress who wore AR-15s on their lapels while conducting official business? What are their official statements? “We’re not gonna fix it?”

Since the shooter was trans that will be the Republican focus. They’re using this horrible, sick, preventable mass murder where real people are having to manage the worst pain a human being can ever experience, to advance their anti-trans agenda.

Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted, “How much hormones like testosterone and medications for mental illness was the transgender Nashville school shooter taking? Everyone can stop blaming guns now.”

Trans people were never a thing until the Republicans made them one and now that one has shot kids in a private Christian school, they get to shoot at them. They can’t believe their good fortune. They deem being trans a mental health issue so this one makes it much easier for them to get out of being questioned about gun legislation.

So with this school shooting, it’s back to the problem being mental health.

It’s the guns. And Republicans. Instead of banning drag shows, books, and TikTok, Congress should be banning fucking assault rifles.

It’s more than the guns. It’s about the country being morally bankrupt. We’re outraged after every school shooting when we are reminded that Republicans are cruel, heartless, and downright evil, but we don’t do much about it. We go from shock, to outrage, to getting used to it and going back to our lives until the next one happens where the cycle repeats itself. Every now and then we take to the streets, but it’s not enough. We’re not gonna fix it.

Republicans are revving up on cheating and stealing elections and just enough people vote for them to keep them in power. If every person who says their pissed off about out-of-control gun violence actually VOTED, we’d fix it. Over 70% of the country wants to fix it, but they don’t vote. Vote! For Democrats!
