What’s McCarthyism?
The Judiciary Committee asked for 81 documents, 20 more than what was first expected. Trump and the White House are freaking out and will not cooperate. Trump said it was a disgrace. The greatest overreach in the history of our country! Then he threatened to stop new legislation because that’s what presidents of democratic governments always do. Congressman Adam Schiff, Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, said “The president has had two years of a Republican Congress that did no oversight whatsoever, so he doesn’t know what oversight looks like.” He just hired a highly experienced prosecutor that specializes in Russian organized crime.
Sean Hannity is whipping his audience into a rabid frenzy over the Democratic witch hunt. They want Trump’s head so they can take over the government to spread socialism. He said that this congressional oversight is the biggest most gruesome display of modern day McCarthyism, knowing full well that his audience won’t think that through. Joseph McCarthy’s witch hunt was against those accused of being communists/socialists, not the other way around. The commies didn’t want his head.
Sean Hannity can keep spewing this crap on his show because there aren’t standards and best practices for TV anymore. Anything goes. News was not intended to make a profit originally. It was a public service. To be news you had to be held to a higher standard. Now that people consume news as a product and there is lots of money to be made off of it, propaganda can pass as news and Sean Hannity can be a gazillionaire.
Republican hypocrite fun fact: Trump says McCarthyism is bad. Roy Cohn, Trump’s former mentor and personal attorney, was also Joseph McCarthy’s lawyer.
Senate Republicans aren’t interested in investigating Trump’s hush money payments. Some senators say they don’t know what the Democrats and reporters are talking about. Chuck Grassley said, “You always ask me questions that I haven’t studied. So I can’t say.” Joni Ernst said she doesn’t know enough about it. If that’s true, they either watch Fox News or they’re lying.
The White House is refusing to honor Elijah Cummings’ request for information about specific details about the security clearance process and Kushner’s clearance. Cummings said he’ll get that information, one way or the other.
Trump’s high school has confirmed that they were indeed threatened about releasing his grades.
Michael Cohen is testifying behind closed doors today for the House Intelligence Committee. This will be his fourth testimony in 2 weeks.
There is a group of young adults sitting outside of Nancy Pelosi’s office on Capitol Hill, demanding that Trump be impeached. They’ve been there for quite awhile, making articulate, impressive speeches, going down the list of all the many reasons why he should be impeached. Many of them are undocumented. They’ve got this. Rashida Tlaib joined them for a bit and pledged her support for impeachment. The cops just showed up and started arresting them.
