Would You Shut Up, Man?
The presidential “debate” wasn’t a debate at all. Disaster doesn’t quite describe it. CNN’s Jake Tapper called it a hot mess inside a dumpster fire inside a train wreck. It. Dana Bash called it a shit show on live television. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow said Trump isn’t running against Biden, he’s running against the election. Nicole Wallace called Trump an abuser and Chris Wallace the abused. Trump’s only strategy, since he was totally unprepared and had nothing whatsoever to run on, was to take control of the evening the minute he opened his mouth by bullying the moderator and his opponent nonstop for 90 minutes. Joe Biden openly laughed at him a number of times. At one point he actually said, “Would you shut up, man?”
Moderator Chris Wallace’s first question was about health care. He told Trump that since he hasn’t done anything to replace the ACA but sign a “largely symbolic” executive order, he’d like to hear about what his healthcare plan was. All Trump could say was insulin was so cheap now “it’s like water,” and “we’re cutting healthcare.”
Trump kept bullying the moderator to kill time and keep him flustered. He wouldn’t let him ask the next question and tried intimidating him by saying, “I guess I’m debating you, not him. But that’s OK, I’m not surprised.”
Biden told Trump to “Get out of the bunker and your sand trap.”
Trump said, “Your party wants to go socialist.”
Biden answered, “I’m the Democratic Party right now.”
Trump blamed Biden and China for the pandemic. Biden responded with, “Between 750 and 1,000 people a day are dying. When he was presented with that number Trump said, ‘It is what it is.’ It is what it is because you are who you are. That’s why it is. The president has no plan.” Trump tried minimizing the losses and compared social distancing, staying home, closing restaurants, etc., to being in prison. When Chris Wallace asked Trump why he was holding big rallies during a pandemic, Trump replied, “Because people want to hear what I have to say.” When asked if he was worried about spreading the virus Trump said there haven’t been any problems (Herman Cain died after attending his maskless rally in Tulsa.) Trump snapped at Joe Biden and said, “If you could get the crowds you would have done it.”
Republican hypocrite fun fact: Herman Cain was never mentioned during the Republican National Convention extravaganza.
Trump accused Biden of playing more golf than he does. Trump plays more golf than Tiger Woods.
“Mr. President, please stop. Mr. President….”
“Can I say something?”
“The answer is NO!” Chris Wallace should have had a kill button for Trump’s mic.
Biden called Trump the worst president America has ever had. He also called him a racist.
“Can I be honest?”
“No!”
Joe Biden got pissed — “Everything he’s saying so far is simply a lie. Everyone knows he’s a liar! Do you have any idea what this clown is doing?”
Then Trump pulled out the big guns — “law and order.” When asked to denounce white supremacy and the violence various militia groups have caused, he refused to do it. Instead he mentioned the right-wing extremist group, the Proud Boys by name and told them to “stand back and stand by.” Then he tried to turn it on the Democrats by saying, “I’ll tell you what, somebody’s got to do something about Antifa and the left!”
The Proud Boys were standing by and created a new logo for themselves, “Stand Back and Stand By” and spent the rest of the night posting online about the marching orders they got directly from the president of the United States.
Trump finished by saying the election was rigged — “This is going to be a fraud like you’ve never seen.” He admitted that he is counting on the Supreme Court and his new judge to settle the election.
Joe Biden ended with, “Under this president we become weaker, sicker, poorer, more divided and more violent.”
That’s about it. Biden kept looking into the camera to talk directly to voters. Trump just yelled at Chris Wallace and Joe Biden. You can’t really say that Biden crushed Trump because it was like debating an obnoxious, spoiled 9 year old brat who did nothing but scream and cry. Fact checkers weren’t as busy as they thought they would be. Chris Wallace did so poorly that if he were anybody else he would have blown his career. But since he works at Fix, err Fox, he already blew his career.
34 days until we get to vote.
