Conspiracy Theory: Replacement of “Legacy Americans”

Another mass shooting over the weekend has brought to light a right wing conspiracy theory that has gone from circulating on the dark web to conservative mainstream thought — Democrats are pro-amnesty for anybody who wants to invade America because they need to import as many nonwhite voters as possible to cancel out “Legacy Americans” thereby diluting their existence and political power in Washington. In other words, whites only. Extremist alt-right views have jumped the dark web wall into the living rooms of frightened white people everywhere. The rest of the country is just learning about “replacement theory” because they don’t watch Fox News or listen to right wing media.

An 18 year old white supremacist domestic terrorist drove 4 hours to Buffalo, New York to go on a shooting spree specifically targeting Black people in a grocery store. He shot 13 and killed 10, one of whom was the security guard who shot at the shooter but couldn’t disable him because he was wearing a bullet proof vest. He live-streamed it. He used an assault weapon, of course, and had written a 106 page manifesto that he posted online quoting Tucker Carlson, “replacement theory” and the diminishing white birth rate. These conspiracy theories are being pushed by Fox News and Republicans like Elise Stefanik. According to this theory, white people are being replaced (sounds like Alito’s leaked opinion overturning Roe v Wade.) His AR 15 had the word “nigger” on it. Cops didn’t shoot him because he was white. The media refers to him as a teenager because he was white. He would have kept going if he hadn’t been caught. That was his plan. He pleaded not guilty because he has the complexion for protection and will probably try and make the case that mental illness made him do it. Last year he was removed from school and held for a mental health evaluation after he threatened to kill a bunch of people including himself but fell off of the radar after he was released. He had no problem purchasing the assault weapon even though he had a record of mental illness.

Conspiracy theories about racially inferior groups outpacing and replacing white people have been borrowed, added to and passed on for several years but only the most hard core of American Nazis were exposed to it. Now, 1/3 of adults believe this crap because it has gone mainstream by Tucker Carlson, Fox News, and Republican members of Congress. Many discovered the theory on the internet because they were bored during the pandemic and spent too much time online.

Replacement theory was talked about in 400 episodes of Tucker Carlson’s show. He says, night after night, that Democrats are trying to get more immigrant voters (AKA “obedient voters”) from third world countries to cancel “their” votes in order to change political power by diluting the electorate. Democrats need new voters and they need them fast. Immigrants are natural Democrats and are being imported. 4/5 of Tucker Carlson’s audience are over 54 and 92% white. They are all primary voters who tune in every night. The strategy is working. Republican voters in the 2022 primary will vote for white supremacy.

Former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich goes on Fox often to say that leftists are trying to drown out “classic Americans.”

Republican Congresswoman, Elise Stefanik, the third most powerful Republican in the House, referenced replacement theory in a campaign ad where she accuses Democrats of applauding a permanent election “insurrection” by granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants to “overthrow” the current electorate and create a permanent liberal majority in Washington. The attack on immigrants is about a threat to the ruling class.

Elise Stefanik is the House Republican Conference Chair. She is trying to reframe the insurrection as being condemned by Republicans, not Democrats. “What makes Republicans consistent is we speak out against violent acts, no matter who commits them … for example, on January 6th.” She claims that Republicans call insurrectionists out whereas the Dems don’t, nor do they call out the Black Lives Matter protesters and abortion, which are both violent.

Toby Morton, comedy writer for South Park created a website for Elise Stefanik’s 2022 campaign with quotes and links about her belief in replacement theory. www.elisestefanik2022.com
