Go Georgia Go!
There is a primary election in Georgia today, the state that saved the day by electing two Democratic senators (thank you Black organizers) in 2020. The day was saved too by the Secretary of State who stood up to Trump and refused to let him steal Georgia’s electoral votes. Stacey Abrams is running for governor again. She became famous after getting screwed by the Secretary of State at the time, Brian Kemp, who was running against her for governor four years ago. He used his power to suppress the vote throwing the win to him, but barely. Since then she’s been busy registering and organizing new voters through the organization she started, Fair Fight. She went from being famous to being a legend. She’s smart, she’s competent, she’s educated, she’s experienced, and she really cares about democracy. It would be so great for Georgia, and the country, if she won. She gets a lot of media attention for working her ass off while the Republicans get media attention for making asses out of themselves.
Speaking of Republicans making asses out of themselves, the GOP is putting their own token negro forth in Georgia to run against the Democratic incumbent, Raphael Warnock. The problem with the GOP, however is they don’t have Black rock stars like Raphael Warnock and Stacey Abrams. The only guy they could get to join the white supremacist party is ex-football player Herschel Walker and he’s insane. He has multiple personality disorder. He claims that he owns a business with “280 women” in South Carolina. That’s not true. He loves to brag about starting other businesses that don’t actually exist either. One of them is the “largest company” of its kind in the whole country. He doesn’t remember putting a gun to his ex wife’s head and telling her he’d blow her brains out. Must have been one of those other personalities. Hell of a guy and the Republicans think they can get the Black vote by running him.
If they think they’ll get the Black vote by running Herschel Walker, how are they going to get the Black vote for running Trump endorsed candidate, and former loser Georgia senator, David Perdue for governor in Georgia? He said that Stacey Abrams should “go back to where she came from — she is demeaning her own race. She should never be considered material for a governor.” Even if she could go back to where she came from she doesn’t know where that is because her ancestors were slaves who were ripped from their homeland. Dickhead.
Georgia will have a Black senator next year, but will it be the white one or the Black one?
Infamous white supremacist and member of the seditionist caucus, Marjorie Taylor Greene is up for re-election in Georgia today. Marjorie says racism doesn’t exist in America.
Georgians showed up for America on November 3, 2020. In the middle of a deadly pandemic, against all odds, they showed up to vote.
“They gutted Voting Rights Act. They closed polling places. They purged voters from rolls. They made voters wait 11 hours in line. They blocked voter registration drives. They rejected 1000s of ballots. Yet Black voters showed up in record numbers to flip Georgia & US Senate.” — Ari Berman
White supremacy has been around since the first Europeans set foot on the shores of a continent that was already well populated with people who already had their own social, economic, political and religious systems. They moved them all out or killed them to make room for themselves and their own myth. They brought with them indentured servants from Europe to work for them but found that it was much more profitable to just kidnap human beings from another continent to work without compensation because indentured servants were free to go once their debt for their voyage to the new world was paid off and they always did. The slave system lasted for over 400 years. After the Civil War ended slavery, white people were able to maintain control and power over African Americans and their descendants by making laws and policies that kept them from ever being equal to their white oppressors. Socially acceptable prejudices were impossible to confront until the Civil Rights movement of the 60s forced people to look at them. Unpleasant injustices and the sufferings of Black people in the South were projected into living rooms all across the country through the television set which horrified many white people living in their own white bubbles. Black Americans fought for, and won, rights such as access and equity in public education and the voting booth. Those rights were not given to them by their oppressors. They were hard won fights that got bloody. The Black community was able to change laws, but not all minds and hearts. White supremacy is alive and well. Whiteness is the preferred default for everything; employment, boards of directors, elected office, beauty standards, social status, advertising, entertainment, medical care, home ownership, court systems, policing, prison systems, civic planning and zoning, school districts, on and on. Much of it it isn’t written because that would be illegal at worst and politically incorrect at best, but it pervades everything in American life. Until it’s confronted and atoned for, which is where we’re finally at as a country today, but the Republicans are fighting it, white supremacy will persist and whiteness will continue to reap all the rewards.
White supremacy is the root of all our problems today — immigration, abortion, voting rights, elections, education. White men are 30% of US population but hold 62% of elected offices. They have been in control for 400 years and they want to keep it that way. They are freaking out whether they realize it or not.
