Interruption of the Neverending Bad News
It’s the first Monday in April and as usual, there is a whole lot of shit going on but let’s start the week off with some good news, compliments of the Democrats:
The latest jobs report shows nearly 500,000 new jobs and a unemployment rate of 3.6% — the lowest level in 52 years thanks to President Biden and the American Rescue Plan.
President Biden has lowered the Trump deficit by over $360 billion, faster than our global competitors last year. He’s on track to make history for the largest deficit reduction in history — $1.3 TRILLION. He plans on doing it by taxing billionaires and corporations and investing in clean energy which of course make the Republicans’ heads explode.
“No coincidence that the last 3 Democratic Presidents following Republicans had to reverse a Recession and enact Recovery and Rescue plans. Republican policies ‘rescue’ the rich — but devastate the jobs market and crush working families’ prospects. Every. Single. Time.” — Speaker Nancy Pelosi
Joe Biden is doing such a good job at presidenting we don’t know if he has golfed and if so, we don’t care!
Amazon warehouse workers in Staten Island, New York won their union vote. They are the first unionized Amazon facility in the US.
Congress reauthorized the Violence Against Women Act after letting it lapse during the Trump administration.
Sales of the books that Ted Cruz held up on TV during his questioning of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson in order to demean her soared by 869%, putting them at the top of the bestseller lists.
Stephen Colbert called his own network out, CBS, for hiring Trump’s former chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, and he did it live on his own show.
After passing in the House, the bill to cap insulin costs at $35 a month for insured people is on its way to the Senate.
After more than a century of trying, Congress finally passed the Emmet Till Antilynching Act and the President has signed it into law. Now anybody who seeks out a person to terrorize, seriously injure or kill them based on sexual orientation, race, sex, religion, etc., can be charged with a conspiracy to commit a hate crime and go to jail for 30 years. Congressman Bobby Rush of Chicago has dedicated much of his political career to getting this passed. He’s a former member of the Black Panther Party and is retiring this year. He said, “After 100 years, over 200 attempts, we are finally making lynching a criminal act.”
Last week ended with the House passing legislation to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level. If it passes in the Senate and signed into law, it would not only mean that the feds can’t mess with the states that have already legalized marijuana, but it would retroactively expunge marijuana charges and convictions.
“I concede our party is not for the kind of cocaine fueled orgies that a freshman Republican representative bragged about this week, but we do understand that their marijuana prohibition laws don’t work for our people.” — Congressman Jamie Raskin
“While Republicans declare war on Mickey Mouse, and talk about cocaine and orgies, Democrats passed legislation to limit the cost of insulin and make weed legal. Seriously — who you gonna vote for?” — Southern Sister Resister
