On the Run
Mark Meadows, Trump’s former chief of staff, former US Congressman and former leader of the Freedom Caucus, is on the run. The guy who spread election conspiracies and lies about voter fraud for months, and helped organize a coup to keep Trump in power, has been removed from the voter rolls in North Carolina. He’s being investigated into committing election fraud himself by registering to vote in North Carolina using an address of a trailer he doesn’t own or live in. He lives in Virginia.
Runner up for worst governor in the country after Ron DeSantis, Gregg Abbott is in a tight race with Beto O’Rourke, the Democrat who gave Ted Cruz a run for his (Russian) money in the last Senate race in Texas. Now he’s challenging Greg Abbott for his seat. Beto is running a charismatic, honorable campaign. Abbott can’t compete with that so he has opted to go down and dirty, firing up the white supremacist vote. He timed his dirty tricks to coincide with the covid restrictions lifting. His tricks are based in the lie that there is an invasion of “illegal immigrants” pouring across the southern border and that Joe Biden won’t do anything about it. As a publicity stunt and a way to get campaign coverage without having to spend any campaign money, Abbott turned the “crisis at the border” into a news event by putting migrants on buses and sending them to DC to pass them off to Biden to take care of. The first bus stopped at Fox News.
Abbott tweeted: First Texas bus drops off illegal immigrants blocks from US Capitol in Washington, DC. Biden refuses to come see the mess he’s made at the border. So Texas is bringing the border to him.
Rewind to the Trump’s “illegal immigrant” crisis. That kept Fox News busy and the racists foaming at the mouth, but it also prompted an investigtion by the UN for human rights violations. They concluded that there was a crisis at the southern border all right, but the crisis was taking children away from their parents. This horrified most people around the world, but not the Republicans. They run on it.
Openly admitting to human trafficking across state lines and holding people hostage could mean that Abbott is in some serious legal trouble. Unless, of course, they’re all paid actors and this is just a gig.
Abbott’s other dirty trick using the border is to hold up border crossings to force truckers delivering daily goods from Mexico to wait in line for 36 hours to undergo unnecessary safety checks so each rig can be searched for drugs and illegal immigrants. This is holding up the supply chain line which is jacking up inflation, which is the whole point. The Republicans are going to run on inflation for the midterms and they’re going to blame Biden. The mainstream media isn’t covering Abbott’s publicity stunt at the border. They’re just covering “inflation” which only helps the Republicans. Headlines read “Inflation at a 40 year high” without including “around the world.” No headlines read “Unemployment at a 50 year low.” Just inflation, inflation, inflation.
Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow shut Mitch McConnell down at a press conference after he went on a canned tangent about the Democrats’ wasteful spending and inflation. She reminded everyone, “There was $7 trillion in new debt and 2.6 million jobs lost during Trump. But when McConnell comes to this podium, all he does is complain that we’re not cleaning up their mess fast enough.”
Trump is going after his political enemies by dipping into his $110 million super PAC war chest. Trump’s Save America PAC made its first major contribution by transferring $500,000 to a super PAC devoted to defeating Governor Brian Kemp. Trump is exacting his revenge on him for refusing to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results. He’s going to use money he got from the Russians and his duped his cult followers to put an end to Kemp’s run.
Trump’s Super PAC is another way he keeps the repugs in line. They all want some of it.
The attorney general of South Dakota, Jason Ravnsborg, just got impeached for hitting a man on the side of a rural highway while driving home from a Republican dinner two years ago. The man went through his windshield and was killed. He took off and told the cops the next day (after he sobered up?) that he thought he hit a deer. He hasn’t faced any criminal charges for the hit and run and he doesn’t expect to. He says he’s been through enough. He can not believe that he got impeached over a traffic accident.
The extra time that Trump’s “lawyer” and coup commander, John Eastman asked the judge for was not to build his defense but to keep criming. He went to Wisconsin and spent 2 hours trying to convince the Assembly to throw out their electors and decertify the 2020 results — a year and a half after the election! He threatened legislators who refused to do go along with his plan. He’s desperate to put Trump back in power so he can be pardoned for putting him back in power. John Eastman has pleaded the fifth 146 times.
Derrick Evans pleaded guilty to felony civil disorder for attacking the Capitol and posting video of it on Facebook. He was a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates at the time. He had just been elected and resigned before he actually served. He’ll be sentenced in June and could go to jail for 5 years. He’s not running again.
