Which Came First? The Gun or the Nut?
President Biden called on Congress to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban, expand background checks, and raise the age limit to buy semi-automatic rifles to 21 — all stuff that a huge majority of Americans, including gun owners have wanted for a long time but 51 senators have prevented it from happening.
“A ban on assault weapons. Universal background checks. Red flag laws. Waiting periods. These policies WORK. California has cut our gun death rate in half with smart policies like these. Congress, you’re up.” — Governor Gavin Newsom
The House of Representatives has already passed bills on mandatory background checks and red flag warnings but the filibuster, Mitch McConnell, the Republicans and Joe Manchin protect killers.
No major gun legislation has passed in over a decade and in that amount of time mass shootings have increased to a daily occurrence. The only ones that get any media attention are the most gruesome ones.
The House Judiciary Committee met to pass a package of six bills that would reform guns laws on a national level called, the “Protecting Our Kids Act,” the most aggressive legislation on gun control in decades. All of the Republicans said it was “too soon” to be talking about guns. Jim Jordan said that the efforts made by the Democrats were just political theater. To that, Eric Swalwell said, “Why aren’t you trying to dramatically change the number of dead kids going into the ground, Mr. Jordan?” Then he asked the entire committee, “Who are you here for — the kids or the killers?” The Republicans were offended because Swalwell implied that they were complicit in murder and heartless. They are.
Greg Steube from Florida participated virtually. He pulled out his personal gun collection for a little Republican show and tell. He loves those things and says that if the Democrats had their way he wouldn’t be able to fondle them anymore in front of people. When Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas said, “I hope the gun isn’t loaded,” he got all cocky and said, “I’m at my house. I can do whatever I want with my guns!”
The House Judiciary Committee’s legislation would:
· Raise the minimum age to buy semi-automatic rifles from 18 to 21.
· Ban high-capacity ammunition magazines.
· Bar the sales of “ghost gun” kits without a background check or serial numbers stamped on the parts.
· Increase penalties for illegal “straw purchases” of guns.
· Require gun owners to safely store their weapons, especially when children are present.
It passed 25–19 along party lines but will be shot down (pun intended) by the Republicans in the Senate because Republicans love their guns more than anything, even their own children.
Congress has done NOTHING since Columbine. As a result, 311,000 students have experienced gun violence at school.
There was a shooting at a cemetery in Wisconsin as friends and family where saying their final goodbyes to Da’shontay King Sr who had been shot and killed by a cop during an attempted traffic stop.
Gun nut Marjorie Taylor Greene went on Tucker Carlson’s show to say, “We have to repeal the federal law for gun free school zones because the best thing that we can do for our children is to protect them with good guys with guns.” She loves guns, especially the kind that is used to shoot up schools. She raffles those off at campaign events to get gun nuts to vote for her.
Senator Ron Johnson blames “liberal indoctrination” for school shootings. He squeezed in right wing talking points to goose his base. “We stopped teaching values. Now we’re teaching wokeness. We’re indoctrinating our children with things like CRT.” He’s so ridiculous and pathetic and obvious but only people who would never vote for him can see it.
Gun worshipping Congresswoman Lauren Boebert and Congressman Doug Lamborn of Colorado stood up on stage at some crackpot “church” to be blessed by Republican Jesus via some crackpot preacher and assorted Christian soldiers: “Lord, strengthen them in the name of the blood of Jesus, and may this state be turned red with the blood of Jesus, and politically.” Lauren keep here eyes closed and her left hand held straight up as she mumbled something over and over.
“I’m just curious why it’s age appropriate for kids K-5 to learn about hiding under desks and not that sometimes people have two dads.” — Annette Taddeo
Texas is banning books instead of guns even though nobody has ever died from reading.
